Achim Kühn
Achim Kühn (born April 5, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German metal sculptor and blacksmith .
Life
Achim Kühn, the son of the blacksmith Fritz Kühn , completed an apprenticeship as a metal designer in his father's workshop from 1956 to 1959 after completing his schooling and then passed the master craftsman's examination as a locksmith and blacksmith. This was followed in 1964 by studying architecture at the University of Architecture in Weimar and additional training as a metal restorer . Since 1967 he has been running his father's studio and workshop in Berlin-Bohnsdorf together with his wife Helgard, a trained goldsmith . The son Tobias also learned to be a blacksmith. They have not sold any works by their father Fritz Kühn since 1967 because they consistently strive to be able to build the Fritz Kühn Museum in Bohnsdorf , which the State of Berlin had decided to do.
Achim Kühn has been a guest speaker at international congresses several times, for example at a conference of the British Artists Blacksmiths 'Association (BABA) in Hereford in 1980 , and on the occasion of the National Blacksmiths' Congress of North America (Association of Blacksmith Artists) in Ripley (West Virginia ) in 1982 ) , 1985 at the conference for blacksmiths and designers “From Idea to Form” in the Blacksmith Museum Gislöv (Sweden) and 1986 at the 1st World Blacksmiths Congress in Aachen. In 1988 he headed the national congress of blacksmiths in Skara (Sweden).
Urban planning changes in Berlin , Leipzig , Frankfurt / Oder and other places after 1990 caused a total of 56 works or groups of works from his work and that of his father Fritz Kühn to be lost, as the art scholar Peter Michel notes.
Works
As a metal sculptor , the spectrum of his work includes art in public spaces, unique works of art, building-related works, and small series. His building-related works can be found in over 80 locations in Germany. In Berlin alone there are over 30 of our own and restoration projects.
Numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad made him known in Europe beyond the borders of Germany. Achim Kühn is an internationally recognized juror .

Quote
“What distinguishes Achim Kühn's work is its complexity and ambiguity, from which a dialogue between space, as an immaterial antagonist, and form unfolds with tension. Last but not least, the role of the viewer is addressed, who is actively involved in the plastic event, as it is his actions that enable a full experience of the three-dimensional structures in the first place.
