The list of fountains in the Berlin district of Pankow is an overview of the currently (as of September 9, 2017) existing fountains , water decorations and public paddling in all parts of the district. In some cases, decommissioned and cleared facilities are included.

Fountain in Pankow

“Berlin is a city with almost 300 public fountains. They decorate the cityscape and ensure an attractive quality of stay in public spaces. It is not uncommon for them to be artistic jewels with an interesting history. ”(From: Public Fountains in Berlin )“ As of 2017, Berliner Wasserbetriebe will gradually take over all 270 public Berlin fountains and sea containers for their technical support. ”The water in the systems naturally does not flow in Winter, but usually between April or May through October. Unfortunately, disruptions are often caused by littering or vandalism. The district office does not always have the financial means for the public water games and sponsors are often sought and won.

Abbreviations from the LOR lists of the statistics office are used for the 13 districts of the district.

The well names are names given by the artist, otherwise descriptive (unofficial) names are included in the list. Private plants are included in the list where accessible. For various reasons, fountains and fountains that were previously in the district were dismantled or replaced with new art objects with and without water. As far as comprehensible, details are specified in the respective systems. The more than 100 street wells for emergency water supply are listed in a separate list . In total (as of 2017) the district named 133 pumps for near-surface groundwater.

The fountain is located 60 meters from the historic main gate of the Bürgerpark on a roundabout. The path leads directly to the simple round pool, in which two large fountain rings are installed in the middle. In the inner ring, four-meter-high water fountains shoot out of twelve nozzles in the center and 1.8 m long jets of water out of 24 nozzles in the outer ring, arc-shaped towards the central fountains. The park received its appearance together with the ornamental fountain system from 1965 to 1968; previously there was an oval lawn surrounded by a path. The well basin is surrounded by an ornate paving made of shaped stones. The fountain bowl including the rim is made of clinker and concrete is 10.1 m in diameter and 40 cm high. The pool edge at seat height is 48 cm wide. From the eastern park entrance with flower borders to the north-south park path in front of the large meadow, the fountain basin is surrounded by a two-meter-wide shaped stone path.

In the rose garden of the Bürgerpark, two small fountains arranged symmetrically to the pergola ((music) pavilion ) were included in the design. The two flat, round basins are paved on the floor and bordered with granite slabs . They each have a diameter of 365 cm, and 1.2 high fountains bubble out of seven centrally installed nozzles to form a foaming water cone. The fountains, 50 meters apart, with their connecting line, lie twelve meters in front of the pavilion, the back of which is facing the Panke . The rose garden itself has existed since the mid-1950s and has been redesigned several times. With the redesign of the park in the early 1990s, the fountains were designed in 1991 with plans for the rose garden by the Green Spaces Office. The rose garden the old dimensions of the main square with the restaurant and manor house.

Federal Archives Image 183-1984-0517-018, Berlin, Berliner Strasse at the corner of Johannes-R. Becher-Straße, Brunnen.jpg
This ornamental fountain was originally a commissioned work for the University of Würzburg , but was left in Berlin.

It was built not far from the Pankow Church on the southwest corner of Berlin to the Breiten Straße around 1972 on a former fallow land. This was left over after the site was destroyed in the war and the ruins were cleared in 1950. In June 1971, Breite Strasse was named Johannes-R.-Becher-Strasse . The passage to the town where GDR representatives lived was also at this point . To improve the street corner, the sculpture attached to a 40 cm diameter concrete base was created as a viewing point. The shallow fountain basin with a diameter of one meter carries a 3.1 m high metal frame on which climbing children can exercise. For the design, Thieme had attended a school class during sports lessons to record typical climbing and gymnastics postures. These five small bronze sculptures represent three boys and two girls and are 80 cm tall. Water drips from the upper ring, which keeps water consumption low. The fountain was restored in 1992 and 2004.

FrzBuchholz pillow fountain Hugenottenplatz 02.jpg
There is a fountain on Huguenot Square, which was newly laid out as an urban center in the Buchholz-West residential area in 1995 . The simple base of the fountain carries "a crumpled pillow that looks true to the original, as if someone had put it there and forgotten it." The bronze pillow is approx. 0.40 m wide and 60 cm long, with a small opening in the upper corner. The escaping water runs over the entire surface and partly through the pillow folds and then down the concrete base. The ornamental fountain is on the triangular square surrounded by benches, 25 m from the eastern corner of the Schweizertal / Rosenthaler Weg. “... there is a concrete block with iron manganese rust flags and a disused well pipe. On top of it lies a 'cement sack that has become hard' - just as if the construction site had not been completely cleared up here 19 years ago. ... The concrete block looks as if it had always stood there, like a boundary stone in a field that was suddenly surrounded by a town square. ”Dieter Geisthardt, chronicler of the Pankow district, suggested a fountain with the figure of To set up Glockengustav . The Buchholz original should be a reminder of history. The sculptor Ulrich Jörke from Buchholz sent his designs to the clients and the cultural office, but was not considered.

Alexander Poetschke 1925
Lion mask at Schönholzer Brücke Pankow (2) .jpg
The fountain is located directly on the Panke and the listed Panke bridge. Around 1925 the bridge over the Panke had to be rebuilt. The Pankow councilors opted for the design by Alexander Poetschke. As an architect, Poetschke was also involved in the design of the town hall of the rural community of Pankow . His design envisaged a kiosk with toilets in the basement and then a pergola with wrought iron fence inserts and a lion's head fountain. The individual objects belong to the monument area of the Bürgerpark. A water-spouting, mask-like relief head made of bronze is applied to an artificial stone wall. The wall of the fountain is about one meter high and 1.35 meters wide and under the gargoyle is the 65 cm high collecting basin on a square base of 1.2 meters. The latter is decorated with a beetle on the left and right and a frog in the middle. The fountain is located between four columns (3 m high) in a niche in the green bridge pergola .
The bridge was renewed in 2010, but the well system is permanently out of order and is being used as a waste container without authorization.

Mud tables Bürgerpark Pankow (2) .jpg
Not far from the Pinke-Panke children's farm there is a water playground on the playground on the western edge of the Bürgerpark. A crank can be used to pump water from a small elephant over a system of wooden tables. This facility on the edge of the Bürgerpark is one of the water playgrounds in the district. There is a spacious, structured mixture of play equipment, open and mud areas and shady relaxation areas. The mud area is located in the middle of the large playground area with a soft, white sandy floor. The water for the "mud" trickles when the water pump, which is shaped as a stylized elephant (0.80 m × 0.53 m) made of metal, comes into operation. Water runs over wooden troughs to a round and a square mud table. The sand is taken from the ground and so the mush can be mashed out of sand and water. The channels and the tables are made of wood, one channel is 2.5 m and two are 2.0 m long. The water flow can be distributed by a wooden lever. The facility was inaugurated in 1992 and refurbished in 2008. The playground in Bürgerpark Pankow has the theme of the sea as its design basis, it is popular and heavily frequented and in good, well-kept condition. All around the square there are benches in the shade and the entire area is surrounded on four sides by a pergola that "could be overgrown".

The natural stone fountain is located in the green and park area at the rear of Schönhausen Palace. The large fountain is located on the main axis of the castle, which continued in Schlossallee to the Spoon Bridge. Since this part of the palace park was occupied for the President of the GDR, Wilhelm Pieck, within the town of Pankow, the park section was closed to the public. In a round 12 meter pool with a 20 cm high rim around a high central fountain are arranged in a ring-shaped, inwardly directed spring emitters. The fountain in a roundabout is open again after the park has been used for the presidential seat and the guest house, and park visitors can enjoy it.

Not far from the large fountain basin is a drip fountain near the south corner of the castle. A small amount of water flows from a small opening in the middle of a metal flower. The water flows off over the edge of the longitudinally grooved vase-shaped stone well vessel in the middle of an area of white, blue and red mosaic stones. A 30 cm tall stainless steel turtle stands on the floor mosaic. This drip well has a height of one meter and the upper round surface is 60 cm in diameter.

The fertility fountain stands on Arnswalder Platz, preferably called the “bull fountain” because of the motif. The system was set up here in 1934. The red porphyry fountain, carved from a quarry near Rochlitz , forms the center of the entire square. The fountains pour out of a mushroom-shaped structure in the middle of the fountain. The two laterally arranged bulls are flanked by symbolic groups of figures: mother with child, shepherd with ram, reaper with a bundle of ears and fisherman with a catch in a net.

In the slightly downhill green area opposite the street Thomas-Mann-Straße 12-16, three similar fountain basins are inserted. The three square fountains, embedded in the bush zone, have a side length of six meters each and a 40 cm high pool edge. Originally, metal sculptures were built as water dispensers, these were dismantled. Instead, the fountains have fountains 30–80 centimeters high. The concrete fountain basins are offset against each other following the footpath. In the direction of the Mühlenbergcenter and the swimming pool, the pools move four meters closer to the street and the number of fountains increases from one to three.

Fountain Weinertstrasse Pankow (7) .jpg
At the northeast corner of Erich-Weinert-Straße / Prenzlauer Allee there has been a green area with a water basin since the late 1950s. This fountain system consists of concrete and artificial stone. In the basin, which is made up of two rectangles, numerous spring lamps are installed. These spray water to the center of the well and to the edge of the well. The entire facility has an area of 10 m × 22 m, composed of a more northerly 10 m² square with an L-shaped spray system. An eight-meter-wide and 12-meter-long pool with an H-shaped spray insert is then open to Erich-Weinert-Straße. Both pools are enclosed by the shared pool edge, which is 60 centimeters wide. The water basin and the lawn cover almost 1000 square meters in front of the adjacent supermarket (Prenzlauer Allee 104, Edeka). The sales flat building to the east (Netto, Getränke-Hoffmann) replaced the abandoned and demolished Martha Arendsee home (Erich-Weinert-Strasse 93/95) (temporarily) around 2010 . On the courtyard side there was another fountain system 60 meters away from the street (behind the building) until the demolition, which was also disposed of with the after-work home.

Fountain Thälmannpark PrenzlauerBerg (1) .jpg
The hot spring in front of the shop zone consists of an octagonal fountain basin made of concrete. It is located at a crossroads in Thälmannpark 30 meters in front of the houses at Ella-Key-Straße 30 and 32. The pool is within 3.65 meters. The edge of the pool is 70 centimeters high. Inside there is a blue metal ring in the middle of which is a metal block with the inlet for a high fountain. Six thin jets of water fall around this in an arc shape to the fountain. The Thälmann-Park was a prestige object for the 750th anniversary of Berlin on the site of the previous Greifswalder Strasse gasworks (IV. Berliner Gasanstalt). During the development with WBS-70 apartment blocks, a row of shops was created on the ground floor area facing the park area. In addition to sculptures and sculptures, this fountain basin was created for artistic design. The well is in a precarious condition, the rubbish in the basin leads to blockages and repeated malfunctions.

KnabeMitFisch in Pankow (1) .jpg
The Knabe mit Fisch fountain is located on a lawn in the west of the Anton Saefkow park, directly on the corner of Anton-Saefkow- / Greifswamder Strasse. The 68 centimeter high central figure stands on a two meter high natural stone base with a square base and 50 cm side length: a boy holding a fish. Fritz Nolde based this design on the many varied fountain sculptures from the turn of the century. The design came from the artist group KRA'NOL'DA (Krause, Nolde, Damerow). The base of the fountain stands in a large, round basin six meters in diameter. The boy on the plinth is only decorative and the fish is not designed as a gargoyle, as is usually the case. The water emerges in the upper area of the well stock on all four sides as a thin water jet and falls into the basin in an arc.
Prenz Children under the umbrella North-east corner Prenzlauer Allee / Danziger Straße

Stephan Horota 1974
Monument Danziger Str 73 (Prenzl) Schirmkinder.jpg
Horota created the Tröpfelbrunnen children under the umbrella in 1967/1968, it was set up in 1974 under the trees at the busy intersection of Prenzlauer Allee / Danziger Strasse on a green area of 950 m². With this fountain, the artist wanted to set a monument to the children of Prenzlauer Berg, the two children "exude calm and serenity". The figure of an older girl stands on a 45 centimeter high pedestal and holds an umbrella over a smaller boy. The water comes from above through openings on the umbrella, so it drips over the edge. The boy catches it with his hands, which form a hollow. The water flows down into a round, paved collecting tray of 12 m with a drain on the base. The two bronze figures are 1.35 m and 1.05 m high and the entire sculpture is 1.6 meters high. The square granite base has a side length of 85 cm. The free space at the intersection remained due to the war damage to the corner building of the Elysium-Lichtspiele (Prenzlauer Allee 56 / Danziger Straße 73 - old numbering).

Instead of the former paddling pool, there is a fountain on Falkplatz; the splash had to be leveled in the late 1980s. A bronze animal sculpture group by Horota has been standing near the Gleimstrasse entrance since 1989/1990. Two lifelike walruses stand on a 45 centimeter high base. These are transversely offset from one another and the lying one is 1.07 m and the erect walrus is 1.3 m high. From their mouths they each spew a jet of water in a high arc in opposite directions. The entire system takes up an area of 2.4 m × 1.30 m and the base of it 1.3 × 1.05 m².

There is a rainwater system with a water inlet on the northwest corner ( Lage ) from Falkplatz in the direction of Mauerpark .

Bathtub MetzerStr Pankow (2) .jpg
With the redesign of the Mittelpromenade Metzer Strasse, which was completed in 1995, Stefan Horota's couple, created in 1982, found a new place in the bathtub . This bronze group previously stood on the corner of Schönhauser Allee / Torstraße ( Lage ) and was renamed as the bath on the corner . In 1992 that sculpture was stolen and was nowhere to be found. Then a second casting was made, which is placed in the current place protected by the residential area. The fountain is the humorous portrayal of a mature couple sitting opposite each other in a small bathtub and raising a glass of wine. In his left hand the man is holding a rose with a tiny water outlet under the flower. Horota was inspired by the Hungarian thermal baths and wanted to commemorate the public baths of the Renaissance. His work should be approached with humor, referring to Father Zille and his unmistakable way of depicting public bathing scenes. The couple and the bathtub are made of bronze, the bathtub is 40 cm high and with the couple 85 cm high. It stands on a 40 centimeter high natural stone base measuring 0.62 × 0.40 m². Since the base was defective, the plastic bathtub was dismantled and stored by the civil engineering department. Only after a successful reconstruction could the fountain system be set up again in summer 2017.

The drip fountain with the animal sculpture Two Bears was created by Stephan Horota in 1986/1987. In 1988 this sandstone fountain was erected on the eastern part of Helmholtzplatz. A 1.95 meter high L-shaped base (0.70 m × 0.90 m) stands on a plinth . A bear stands on this and looks down at the second bear. The lower bear sits upright on the lower plinth and looks up. The lifelike animals depicted face each other. Water emerges in the middle from a tiny opening in the upper area of the plinth and flows into the ground through a small channel in front of it.

One of the works of Horota in the Pankow district is the Froschkönig fountain on Teutoburger Platz. The sandstone sculpture was created in 1987 and erected in 1989. This drip fountain has a three-part structure: a frog sits on a base with a water outlet pipe, with a slightly offset cube in front of it that has been worked out as a collecting basin. The girl crouches on a plinth , offset in a rustic shape and monumental size. The frog on the base, 1.06 m high, is 42 centimeters and the girl sitting at 37 centimeters is 1.55 meters high. In between is a 30 cm high sandstone block with the water catchment basin.

On the west side of the green and recreational area of Falkplatz there is a water inlet to the trapezoidal rainwater collection system on Gleimstrasse. Here the Schwedter Straße (here as a path between the former Nahngelände and Falkpark) borders the Falkplatz from the Mauerpark. The water inlet follows the slight gradient from a (rainwater) collecting basin at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in a zigzag pattern . In the catch basin (on the southern edge) 19 bridge stones are embedded, on which the water surface can be crossed. In addition, there are additional exposed granite blocks in the basin. In the event of an overflow, the water should be drained off with a pump system as required. Four steps, also made of granite, lead to the water basin with the edge lengths of 25, 22, 20 and 16 meters from Gleimstrasse and Schwedter Strasse. The incoming water is led through a bio-cleaning system.

This fountain system of 2.06 m × 1.58 m across from Seelower Straße 8 was built during the redesign of Arnimplatz . This improvement of the square in the years 1995 to 1999 took place according to historical principles and specifications. The system is sometimes referred to as a "book". This trickle fountain is located next to the monument to Bettina and Achim von Arnim , also designed by the sculptor Michael Klein. The area-wide bronze fountain sculpture, 120 cm high, was placed on a rectangular synthetic stone base that slopes slightly towards the front. The centerpiece is a simple, sloping bench known as Bettina's bench , which is 40 cm high, 1.35 m long and 40 cm wide. A pillow with an open book on it and a pair of gloves are on the bench. Over this gradient, water trickles from eight nozzles from the rear edge under the bench, past a coarse, as if accidentally fallen branch. It flows beyond the base into the ground. The water is supplied via a deep well .

At the intersection of Greifswalder / Danziger Strasse in the south of the Ernst-Thälmann-Park lies the Spielberg , a playground in the middle of a round green area that is designed at different heights. A water play area is available "for refreshment and for the fun of smaller children". Six water nozzles are installed in the upper area of a high six-legged steel construction, which spray a refreshing shower in summer. The base of the splash is a designed concrete surface. Around the water surface there is a concrete border suitable for sitting, made up of four adjacent blocks. This border holds the water back inside and drains it into the overflows in the six interruptions in between. The Danziger Strasse 111 building, in which the DIMI children's and youth leisure center is adjacent, is adjacent to this playground area . The Spielberg in the south of the park area was set up together with the construction of the Thälmannpark on a previous gasworks site.

The Einsteinpark is north of Storkower Straße between Pieskower Weg and Einsteinstraße. This paddling facility is located on the edge of the large meadow with the Einstein monument in partial shade and next to the playground. It is primarily intended for the fun and refreshment of younger children. Three stainless steel bollards are distributed over a trapezoidal area of 60 m² with 15 m along the path. They have a height of 30, 50 and 70 cm and a diameter of 30 cm each. From their nozzles, water sprays in a high arc for a few seconds after the corresponding foot release has been found and activated by stepping on it. On the edge of the base there are five roughly modeled, seat-high granite blocks that are set up as indestructible seating and climbing options.

The waterfall to the artificial lake is located in a bush zone of the Thälmann Park 60 m northeast of the monument plate . A water inlet leads under a park path bridge 60 m from Greifswalder Straße to the concrete drop step. With a drop height of one meter, this has a width of 4.40 m. The bridge overpass with the access road and the adjacent pond area are surrounded by green plants. In addition to the formative effect, the waterfall probably serves to aerate the water inlet into the artificial lake. The park was laid out on the former site of the municipal gasworks IV with park paths, watercourse and lake and was set up in preparation for the 750th anniversary of Berlin on the East Berlin side for the 100th birthday of Ernst Thälmann .

Löwenbrunnen water tower Pankow (2) .jpg
The Löwenbrunnen is a fountain right next to Berlin's oldest water tower. In a rectangular granite basin, a very low fountain usually bubbles continuously. With interval switching, three powerful water jets are also directed into the basin in an arc from stainless steel nozzles. The wide edge of the pool can be used as a bench. The near-natural bronze sculpture of a lion father with two (cat-like) lion cubs was set up on a separate base right next to the water basin at Stephan Horota's request and was intended as an independent work of art. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was already a fountain on the historic water tower square. The predecessor was also adorned with a bronze lion, which was frighteningly designed. The new lion family, on the other hand, appears peaceful. The location of the fountain between the adjoining kindergarten and the playground means that there are often smaller children at the fountain. The fountain basin is 30 centimeters deep and six by two and a half square meters in size. The basin and the base are made of granite. The lion father of 1.60 m length and the lion cubs next to the 40 cm high sitting upright are made of bronze. The design of the granite basin came from the office of Dr. Jacobs & Hübinger, the inauguration took place on May 5, 2007. The water tower on Belforter Strasse was called Dicker Hermann and was completed in 1877, and was in operation in this function until 1952.

The White Lake is located in a park that has existed since 1887 . A fanned fountain rises in the middle of the lake from May to October as an eye-catcher and to supply oxygen to the inflow and outflow . The system is lowered in winter. The fountain is open from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is illuminated in the evenings. Fountain nozzles and feed ring are made of stainless steel , the floating pontoon weighs 6.5 tons. It is 6.5 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 70 centimeters high. The main fountain reaches up to 23.0 m and the eight outer fountains have a jumping height of 12 to 13 meters. The old fountain system was built in 1969. During the annual inspections in 2008, irreparable damage and technical defects were found and the old fountain system was expanded. The renewed fountain system was put into operation on August 29, 2009 for the Weißensee Flower Festival. In 2016 the system had to be repaired because the stainless steel nozzles of the outer ring were stolen, so only the main fountain was functional. The repair required custom-made products.

Paddling pool 1956
There is a water playground for children in the north-west of the park at the Weißen See. The facility was set up in 1955 when the park was redesigned in the post-war years ; the water-spouting sea lions ( walruses ) made of shell limestone were built in the early 1920s. There was a water slide in the shape of a fish in the 1960s and 1970s. The elongated pool of 61 × 17 m² with rounded corners has 30 stainless steel water jets evenly distributed around the edges of the pool. These are equipped with two unequal outlet nozzles and give a refreshing shower in the summer months. The slightly curved and shallow pool for paddling fun is connected to the neighboring lawn at ground level. The sea lions placed at one end of the basin are 1.6 m long and 1.3 m high.
After 40 years, the worn paddling facility was renewed and renovated in 1995/1996. Since then, the water has been draining away, before it remained 20 cm high. A wooden ship belongs to the playground, which had to be closed and repaired in 2017. The sea lions are kept in a standardized manner and only show the most essential details. "What is striking is the large pores of the stone and the striking protrusion of individual layers." The cause is deep moisture penetration and children playing on it.

This modern well system is located in the new development area Karow-Nord on the Chronisteneck . This is a triangular square that is created at the bend in Achillesstrasse through the continuation in Beerbaumstrasse. Benches and bollards set up all around invite you to linger. On the side of the round fountain basin facing the turning Beerbaumstrasse there is a true-to-scale relief of the Karow-Nord district, which was only created after the fall of the Wall, on the edge of the otherwise simple flat fountain bowl. The fountain bowl was made of the granite stone Eitzing - yellow , the surface is polished. The pool has a diameter of 5.8 m and the edge of the fountain is 30 cm high. Low, meter-high white water fountains bubble up from four nozzles, which are illuminated in the evening hours.
Due to its ailing condition, the well had to be shut down in the 2010s. Due to the defective joints, the water ran through the building structure into the subsoil and caused further damage. The plant should be repaired in 2017.
Whites Splash with the seal Gounodstrasse location unknown 1975 (after 1975) The pool belonged to the day care center at Gounodstrasse 56/58 and was decorated with an animal sculpture called the little seal . This sculpture was 65 cm high with the plinth and stood on the edge of the water splash as a decorative aquatic animal and caressing sculpture. The function of the plastic as a gargoyle was defective (1993).

During the renovation of Antonplatz in 2008, the no longer functional well designed by Margret Lüdtke was removed. A flat water art has now been commissioned for the green space that was redesigned after the fall of the Wall . The water art made of gray Herschenberg granite (Linz, Austria) lies on a reinforced concrete base : the rectangular fountain basin consists of granite wedges, so that flowing water forms a small stream in shallow basins. The fountain marks the paved area between the two green areas as an accessible relief. The edge of the seat on the front sides and seat blocks on the long sides invite you to relax. The entire system is 12.8 m long, 3.9 m wide and, at a height of 0.3 m, has a slight gradient of 1.26 percent.

The jewelry fountain was her diploma thesis at the Weißensee art college . In the middle of the large basin with a diameter of six meters stood a 2.5 m high spiral-shaped ceramic column, over which water flowed down from above and poured into the water basin below. The segments were glazed in beige-brown tones and arranged like a comb. As early as 1993, the glaze was destroyed several times and the joints were leaking.

Water column Friedhof Pankow III.jpg
For the water supply in cemeteries there are usually simple taps in front of water basins. This 1.20 m high water column made of artificial stone stands at the level of the building of the cemetery administration Pankow III on the former main path. The watercourse can be triggered by pressure so that the visitor can fill the watering can. Excess water runs through the drain below into the sewer system. The fountain actually stood at the main entrance to the cemetery with an attractive gate, which was located on what was then Bahnhofstrasse .
From 1961, the Berlin Wall between East and West Berlin stood here through the district border between Pankow and Reinickendorf . In 1962/1963, graves were laid from a 35-meter-wide strip in order to create freedom from shooting at the wall strip and the administration building and thus the designed water dispenser came to the rear of the cemetery until the fall of the wall.

There are two drinking fountains in Pankow (as of 2017) because “the district of Pankow [is] the winner of the 'Brunnen-Run 2015'. ... The water company set up a drinking fountain in the city for every 10,000 kilometers. ”The fountain primarily serves as a thirst quencher and is located on Garbatyplatz opposite the Pankow S-Bahn station in front of the shopping and business building. In the past, drinking fountains were used to continuously draw water and had a flush function for the pipe network. The 1.05 m high columns, cast from aluminum, are visually divided into five equally high segments by cross markings and have a slightly oval cross-section. The design comes from the Berlin designer Marcus Botsch. On one side of the upper edge is a flat bowl with a diameter of 50 centimeters, from the center of which a fine jet of water also rises steadily. This facility, known as the Berlin drinking fountain , has no ornaments, but looks elegant.

With its extensive facilities, it still offers rest and relaxation. The Panke, a 23 km long river from which the city district owes its Slavic name, also flows here. For Berliners, Pankow, with its 1425 hectares of green space, parks and forest areas, as well as around 9100 allotment gardens, is a considerable “green lung”.
