List of International Masters (Awarded 1950)
The list of International Masters of 1950 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters in 1950 from the World Chess Federation FIDE . It was the first year of the award for past excellent performance in chess. The only woman honored was the then world chess champion Lyudmila Rudenko (although the International Women's Champion was awarded for the first time in the same year ). After Pál Benkő's death in August 2019, none of the 94 players honored at the time is alive. 21 of the 94 players later achieved the title of grandmaster , another 15 were later awarded the title of honorary grandmaster . Lyudmila Rudenko was awarded the newly created title of Grand Master of Women in 1976 .
Legend
The table contains the following information:
- Name : gives the name of the player.
- Country : The country for which the player was eligible to play in 1950.
- Life dates : states the year of birth and death of the player.
- GM : Indicates the year of award for players who were later promoted to grandmasters.
- HGM : Indicates the year of the award for players who were later made Honorary Grand Masters.
- Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known). Changes to a successor state are not taken into account.
