List of International Masters (Awarded 1950)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pál Benkő was the last surviving player to be awarded the IM title in 1950

The list of International Masters of 1950 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters in 1950 from the World Chess Federation FIDE . It was the first year of the award for past excellent performance in chess. The only woman honored was the then world chess champion Lyudmila Rudenko (although the International Women's Champion was awarded for the first time in the same year ). After Pál Benkő's death in August 2019, none of the 94 players honored at the time is alive. 21 of the 94 players later achieved the title of grandmaster , another 15 were later awarded the title of honorary grandmaster . Lyudmila Rudenko was awarded the newly created title of Grand Master of Women in 1976 .
