Heinrich Steiner was born in 1908. He worked as a police sergeant in the police headquarters in Solingen and Remscheid. He belonged to the Reichsbanner and the SPD . He was accused of “influencing the police officers in the Marxist sense” and was then taken into “protective custody” from August 15, 1933 to April 4, 1934 in the Kemna concentration camp and then in the Börgermoor concentration camp . He was released from police service on January 30, 1934 by the Law to Restore the Civil Service. On July 24, 1936, the Hamm Higher Regional Court sentenced him to two years in prison for espionage. He was later deported to the Stutthof concentration camp and murdered there on August 7, 1942. Another stumbling block was laid for him in front of the Solingen police headquarters. | |

Wilhelm Eppels was born on August 6, 1907 in Remscheid. He was a member of the KPD and the Red Front Fighters League . After the Nazis came to power, he was taken into "protective custody" on December 14, 1934 and sentenced in a mass trial of the KPD members from Remscheid and Hückeswagen by the Hamm Higher Regional Court for preparation for high treason to one year and more months in prison and in the Remscheid prisons and Wuppertal and in the Lüttringhausen prison. After his release from prison on June 2, 1935, he emigrated to the Netherlands in February 1936. From The Hague he headed the distribution of illegal KPD literature in the German Reich. After that he moved to Spain where for the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War takes part where he held on 8 September 1938 Spain falls. |
Street renaming
There are numerous stumbling blocks in Alleestraße. Until May 14, 1945 this street was still called Adolf-Hitler-Strasse and was renamed by the British military authorities.
