List of unpublished recordings by the Beatles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following lists deal with audio and video recordings of the Beatles that have not yet been published legally or that have been prevented from being published again for legal reasons, mostly by court decisions. Mixtures that differ from the published versions but are merely variations are not listed. Material that was not legally published was mostly distributed on so-called " bootlegs " , if available, whereby the sources mentioned here are not the titles of the various bootlegs, but the following books:

  • The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions by Mark Lewisohn
  • The Unreleased Beatles Music & Film by Richie Unterberger

Furthermore, the anthology series published by the Beatles themselves serves as evidence, some of which presents excerpts from previously unpublished audio and video material.

All material listed has so far been illegally published on audio or video bootlegs. Material whose existence is only documented by the memories of those involved or is in the exclusive possession of individual persons is not listed below; the only exception is the book The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions by Mark Lewisohn.

Instead of being flexidiscs, they were pressed onto colorful vinyl, the artwork was based on the original covers. The liner notes include the accompanying letters from the Beatles to the fan club members at the time. The content of the individual singles consists of thanks to the fans, skits (also in the form of radio plays) and parts of songs sung.

This 50-minute television documentary, recorded in color at New York's Shea Stadium , not only includes ten of twelve live tracks, but also shows excerpts from the preparatory work for the concert as well as smaller live performances from the preliminary program. The documentation is partially supported by comments from the Beatles and Brian Epstein. Parts of the documentation were used for the Anthology DVD series (marked with *). The sound quality turned out to be so poor that the live recordings were replaced by other versions. On January 5, 1966, seven of the tracks (marked with +) received overdubs in the studio, two songs, I Feel Fine and Help! were completely re-recorded. With the Beatles busy, there wasn't enough time to do Twist and Shout and Act Naturally as well. For the first track, the live recording of the concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965 was used, while Act Naturally made the studio recording of the album Help! with audience noise and used this version for the film.

  1. Twist and Shout *
  2. I Feel Fine * +
  3. Dizzy Miss Lizzy +
  4. Ticket to Ride +
  5. Can't Buy Me Love +
