Bad to Me ( English : bad to me ) is a song by British band The Beatles , the 2013 on their compilation album The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 was published. It was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and published under the author's name Lennon / McCartney . The song was first published by Billy J. Kramer .

Bad to Me was composed in April 1963 and is mainly based on the musical ideas of John Lennon. According to Lennon, the song was written by Lennon and Brian Epstein in Barcelona while on vacation in Spain . In May / June 1963 John Lennon recorded a demo version with guitar accompaniment, but it is not clear whether another Beatle was involved. The demo acetate was owned by Alistair Taylor, an assistant to Brian Epstein, who then sold the record through Sotheby’s on December 22, 1981 for £ 308 .

Bad to Me was never recorded by the Beatles for EMI , instead they offered the song Billy J. Kramer , which recorded Bad to Me on June 26, 1963 under the production direction of George Martin . Brian Epstein was also the manager of Billy J. Kramer. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were also present during the recording session. The song was released as a single on July 26th and peaked at number one on the UK charts. The B-side of the single, I Call Your Name, is also a Lennon / McCartney composition Bad to Me reached number nine in the US charts in 1964.

In 1963 and 1964, Billy J. Kramer had three more hits with Lennon / McCartney compositions: Do You Want to Know a Secret , a song from the Beatles album Please Please Me, and I'll Keep You Satisfied and From a Window , two songs that the Beatles did not record themselves. Another Lennon / McCartney composition that the Beatles did not use and that Kramer recorded was I'll Be on My Way .
