She's a Woman ( English She is a woman ) is a song by British band The Beatles in 1964. It appeared as a B-side of the single I Feel Fine . The song was written by Paul McCartney , but is subject to the copyright Lennon / McCartney, which is common with the Beatles .

Paul McCartney has only vague memories of the process of creating She's a Woman . He had probably already composed most of the song and completed it together with John Lennon in the studio on the day of recording. The song is considered to be the first song in which the band makes reference to drugs . The line of text “Turn me on when I get lonely” is intended to indicate marijuana use .

The recordings for She's a woman found in the October 8, 1964 in London Abbey Road Studios instead. The producer was George Martin , assisted by Norman Smith . First, the band recorded a total of six takes of the song live, including the incisive rhythm guitar played by John Lennon . On the evening of the day, George Harrison added a guitar solo , Paul McCartney piano and vocals, and Ringo Starr a chocalho (a Brazilian percussion instrument).

A recorded on November 17, 1964 version of the radio program Top Gear of the BBC appeared in 1994 on the album Live at the BBC . Another live version from June 30, 1966, which was made in Nippon Budokan Hall ( Tokyo ), was released in 1995 as part of the Anthology series. A third live version can be heard on the live album The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl . Paul McCartney released a solo version in 1991 that was created live on MTV Unplugged .
