List of Nepomuk statues

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The most famous statue of Nepomuk is on Charles Bridge in Prague , where the saint was thrown into the Vltava . It was created by Johann Brokoff in 1683 and is the model for many later statues . The Prague statue is said to have miraculously turned its head away from the old town on August 31, 1744 and turned towards the sky.

This is a list of Nepomuk statues . Johannes Nepomuk , canonized in 1729 , has been depicted extremely frequently since the Baroque period , especially in the areas belonging to the Habsburg monarchy . After field crosses and depictions of Mary , sculptures of St. Nepomuk in Catholic areas of southern Germany , Bohemia , Moravia and Austria are the most common Christian stone figures found outside of church buildings in the open countryside . He is considered a bridge saint , which is why Nepomuk statues can often be found on bridges.
