List of referendums in European countries
This list outlines the referenda (plebiscites, referendums on) that exist in the countries of Europe have been by 2009.
The following are not listed:
- Referendums in Italy (since 1974), Switzerland and Liechtenstein, as people's legislation has a special status in these countries and referendums are far above average - for two of these countries see:
- Italy: List of Italian referendums
- Switzerland: List of federal referendums
- Referendums below the national level
- Referendums in Turkey (see referendum in Turkey )
- Referendums under non-democratic circumstances, for example in Austria in 1938 on the Anschluss or in 1971 on the new constitution in Bulgaria
