geography
Geographical location
Litzelstetten is one of the 15 districts of Constance. The district corresponds to the former municipality of Litzelstetten, which was incorporated on December 1, 1971 , and the district of the same name. The area has an area of 5.11 km² (5,113,703 m²) and a population of 3780 (as of December 31, 2008) .
Litzelstetten is also a locality within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code with a local council and local administration.
In the past, the Neuhof homestead in the north was identified as a separate district in this area (today still as a street of the same name) and Litzelstetten as a village . A few hundred meters south of the main part of Litzelstetten is the former provost of St. Catherine, which historically belonged to Mainauer territory. It is located in an almost six hectare exclave of the Litzelstetten district, wedged between the districts of Egg in the east and Wollmatingen in the west, a clearing in the Mainauwald. The area did not come to Litzelstetten from Allmannsdorf until 1925 .
The parts of the municipality in the area of the Litzelstetten district at a glance:
- Litzelstetten ( village )
- Neuhof ( homestead , previously listed as a separate district)
- St. Katharina (former convent )
- Mainau (island and part of the municipality with castle)
history
Alemanni founded in the 5th / 6th Century on the local area a settlement that probably belonged to the Frankish royal court in Bodman .
The name "Litzelstetten" was first mentioned in 839 as "Luzzilonsteti" in a deed of donation to the Reichenau monastery . In 1272 rule in Litzelstetten was taken over by the Kommende Mainau of the Teutonic Order , which it held until the secularization in 1802.
When Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden took over the island of Mainau in 1853, Litzelstetten became one of his favorite places, which had a positive effect on the development of the village.
Until 1918, the island of Mainau was part of the municipality of Allmannsdorf (or after the incorporation of Allmannsdorf (which also includes the area of today's Egg district) into the city of Konstanz on January 1, 1915 , as was the former St. Katharina's convent Konstanz), when the owners decided that the island and St. Katharina, which they also own, should belong to the municipality of Litzelstetten. Only with the incorporation of Litzelstetten into the city of Konstanz on December 1, 1971, Mainau and St. Katharina became part of the city of Konstanz again, but remained in the Litzelstetten district.
Religions
The two Christian parishes of St. Peter and Paul ( Roman Catholic with St. Peter and Paul (Litzelstetten) ) and Resurrection Church ( Protestant ) characterize the religious site. They use the baroque church Sankt Marien Mainau ecumenically during the main season . The Catholic community is part of the pastoral care unit of the Bodanrück communities in Constance. Dingelsdorf (with Oberdorf) also belongs to the evangelical community.
