Lucas von Spreckelsen (Mayor)

Lucas von Spreckelsen (born February 4, 1691 in Hamburg ; † July 27, 1751 there ) was a German lawyer , councilor and mayor of Hamburg.

He came from the Hanseatic family von Spreckelsen . After his education at Johann Albert Fabricius and Christoph Heinrich Dornemann (1682-1753) at the Academic Gymnasium studied Spreckelsen from 1712 jurisprudence at the University of Leipzig . Here he attended the lectures of August Friedrich Müller , Andreas Rüdiger , Gottfried Polycarp Müller , Gottlieb Gerhard Titius and Johann Adam Schertzer . In 1717 he went to the University of Leiden , attended the lectures of Philipp Reinhard Vitriarius and Gerhard Noodt and received his doctorate on July 12, 1718 with a dissertation under the rector Johannes Jacobus Rau as a doctor of law .

After his studies he settled in Hamburg as a lawyer . Here he was elected councilor on February 18, 1728. In 1731 he traveled to Stade as envoy and on November 7, 1731 concluded a settlement with Hanover about the church in Altenwalde , which at that time belonged to the Hamburg office of Ritzebüttel .
In 1735 he was appointed praetor .
In 1750, he traveled with the Ratssyndicus Johann Klefeker (1698 to 1775) and the archivist Franz Som (1688-1766) to Kiel , where he completed the deposit and lending agreement with Holstein from. The city of Hamburg had lent money to Duke Karl Peter Ulrich von Holstein-Gottorf for 20 years and received parts of the offices in Reinbek and Trittau as pledge .

On December 17, 1750 Spreckelsen was elected mayor for the late Clemens Samuel Lipstorp (1696-1750). A commemorative coin was minted for this occasion. However, he died the following year of blood poisoning, as a result of a foot injury, and was buried on August 2, 1751 in the main church of St. Nikolai . A mayor's penny was minted on his death . His successor as mayor was Lucas Corthum (1688-1765).

family

Spreckelsen was a son of the Hamburg lawyer Hartwig von Spreckelsen († 1708) from his marriage to Dorothea Moller (1664–1744), daughter of the mayor Diedrich Moller (1622–1687). The Hamburg councilor Johann von Spreckelsen (1607–1684) was his grandfather.

On November 8, 1729, he married his cousin Maria Moller (* 1703), daughter of the senior elder in the parish of Sankt Nikolai Vincent Moller (1656-1737). The three sons from this marriage died young. The daughter Dorothea (1730-1798) married on May 18, 1751 the council syndicate Peter Amsinck (1716-1767).
