Lucky Luke - The Adventure Continues (Original: Les Nouvelles Aventures de Lucky Luke ) is a French - Canadian Western - animated series from the years 2001-2003, based on the figures of the Comics Lucky Luke by Morris , but unlike the first animated series Lucky Luke 1983/84 and 1991/92 no longer based on the stories of the comic books. It was directed by Olivier Jean-Marie and produced by Marc du Pontavice with the Xilam studio.

Lucky Luke, the cowboy who shoots faster than his shadow, riding in the Wild West on the smartest horse in the world Jolly Jumper, the comments on the adventure of his rider's sarcastic, and often helps in company with the turn dumbest dog in the world Rantanplan through the prairie and on the one hand, innocent citizens in need and, on the other hand, chasing after criminals to bring them to prison. In contrast to the general population, he is a friend of all Indian tribes and also has an open mind towards immigrant communities such as the Irish and Chinese. His main opponents are the bank robbers Daltons , who keep breaking out of prison and being captured by Luke. He does not accept any reward for his work, not even the sheriff's star offered to him several times, and at the end of the episodes he always disappears without a word in front of the other characters.

As in the comics, the stories are shaped by the fact that Luke repeatedly meets real people spread over the second half of the 19th century: Calamity Jane , Billy the Kid and Buffalo Bill emerge from the earlier cartoon series as characters from the Wild West again. New recurring roles are General Custer in three episodes and as US President Ulysses S. Grant (1869–1877) in five episodes . People who do not come from America, but who visit America, can also be seen, such as Queen Victoria , the French Lumière brothers (1896 in America) and the singer Lola Montez (1853 in West America).

Broadcast and DVD release

In France, the total of 52 episodes were broadcast from December 2001 to December 2002 and from March to May 2003. In Germany, Super RTL showed roughly the first half from December 2002 to November 2003, and more in June and July 2004; the last two finally took place in December 2006.

From November 2010 to May 2011 five DVD boxes with ten or eleven episodes each were released on three DVDs. A complete box in a slipcase with fifteen DVDs was released in May 2016 for the 70th birthday of the comic figure and in 2018 another DVD box with all episodes on eight DVDs.
