Luis Cordero Crespo (born April 6, 1833 in Surampalti , Déleg , today Cañar , † January 30, 1912 in Cuenca ) was an Ecuadorian lawyer, poet and politician. From 1892 to 1895 he was President of Ecuador.

Luis Cordero was born in 1833 as the son of small farmers. Among other things, he studied at the Colegio Seminario Conciliar de Cuenca , where he then held a chair in the humanities.

Cordero was a member of the liberal Catholic Progressive Party (Partido Progresista) , as a member of which he belonged to a liberal transitional government after the overthrow of General Ignacio de Veintemilla from January 14, 1883 to October 15, 1883, whose presidency he took over.

From July 1, 1892 to April 16, 1895 he was President of Ecuador. Its vice-president was initially Pablo Herrera (until January 1894) and then Vicente Lucio Salazar , who then succeeded him until June 5, 1895 in office.

In 1910, President Eloy Alfaro authorized him as Minister to represent Ecuador in the celebration of Chile's centenary in 1910.

As a poet, Luis Cordero wrote a number of poems in the Spanish and Kichwa languages, making some of the earliest contributions to Ecuadorian Kichwa literature . He also published a Kichwa-Spanish-Kichwa dictionary.
