Due to the differences to the previous cultures , this was called the Münchshöfen culture after it was first found .
Numerous finds, primarily of ceramics, can be viewed today in the prehistoric and early historical department of the Gäubodenmuseum Straubing .

Modern times

The church of St. Sebastian , a branch church of the parish community Oberschneiding-Reissing, got its present appearance through the construction of the nave in the 18th century. The choir and the basement of the tower are from the late Gothic period .

In 1808 Münchshöfen became its own tax district in the Straubing Regional Court , and in 1821 the place became part of the newly formed community Niederschneiding . As part of the regional reform , the municipality of Niederschneiding was dissolved and thus the place Münchshöfen on January 1, 1972 part of the municipality of Oberschneiding .

The Münchshöfen mineral baths were founded in the first half of the 19th century . The spring is located just under a kilometer west of Münchshöfen and was owned by the farmer Gierl from Münchshöfen. He recognized the healing effects and initially received permission to set up a health bath. In 1832 the Münchshöfen estate owner Rabl bought the spring and built the spa with the support of the doctor Heinrich von Pechmann. The spa guests were initially accommodated on the property of the owner in Münchshöfen. A two-story bath house was built at the source, and later a spa hotel with 30 rooms. The spa was especially recommended for diseases of the locomotor system, paralysis and ulcers.

In 1864 a school building was built in Münchshöfen. The pupils from Münchshöfen, Fierlbach, Großenpinning, Büchling, Münchsdorf and Neuhausen were taught in a one-class elementary school. In Münchshöfen, lessons continued in the newly built school building in Oberschneiding in 1982.

In 1926 the Kleinbahn Wallersdorf – Münchshöfen started operating. It connected Münchshöfen with the Landshut – Plattling railway line and was used exclusively for freight traffic. The operation was stopped in 1949 due to the increasing motorization of agriculture, the facilities were dismantled.

In 1931, the Wilhelm Krieger brewery , based in Landau an der Isar, took over the previous Rabl brewery as a second production site in Münchshöfen. After the expansion of the Landau site, the brewery was stopped in 1976 and operations in Münchshöfen in 1977.

Antoniusheim

The Antoniusheim Münchshöfen was founded in 1930 by the Wallersdorf pastor Georg Stelzer . After initially leasing the former Kurhaus of Bad Münchshöfen , it was converted into a nursing home. Mentally handicapped people were admitted who had previously lived in the Mainkofen district hospital and were now cared for by St. Francis Sisters from the Vierzehnheiligen monastery . In 1941, all residents were deported by the Nazis and murdered in the Hartheim killing center in Upper Austria . Pastor Stelzer bequeathed the Antoniusheim to the Bishop of Regensburg , after Stelzer's death in 1946 it was assigned to the Episcopal See . The Franciscan Sisters took over the management of the house again, they worked in the Antoniusheim until 2005. In the 1960s, a new building was constructed that includes two living areas and the kitchen. In 1986 there was another expansion to include a western building with additional residential and residential care groups. A general renovation took place between 1989 and 1992, and since then the facility has provided space for 103 disabled women and men in three care groups and four residential groups. Since 1992 there has been a funding facility with three groups in the Antoniusheim . The Catholic youth welfare organization has been responsible for the facility since 2003 .
