  • The M-9 is a Kosovar national road from the Montenegrin border in the Rugova Gorge via Peja and Pristina to the Serbian border towards Medveđa .

    Expansion status

Between Peja and Pristina, the M-9 is being gradually expanded into a four-lane expressway. So far, about half of the route from Pristina has been expanded to four lanes, but with a fluctuating standard. Since November 27, 2012, the M-9 has been functioning as a connection between Pristina and the newly built Autostrada R 7 to the Albanian border near Vërmica . The four-lane connection between the capital Pristina and the Albanian border has thus been implemented. In 2016, the section between the Balinca and Kijevë motorway junction (8 km) was expanded into a four-lane motorway-like road. The remaining part to Peja (approx. 35 km) is in the planning stage and a small section in Kijevë has already started.

    meaning

While the M-9 takes on an important function for the connection between Peja and Pristina and also connects the Pristina airport , the section through the Rugova Gorge is currently practically meaningless, as the border with Montenegro via the Čakorpass has been closed since the Kosovo war . The road condition of this section is correspondingly bad. Border traffic to Montenegro is handled by a regional road from Peja via Mala Jablanica to Rožaje .
