Maciej Urbanowicz (born July 12, 1986 in Gdansk ) is a Polish ice hockey player who has been under contract with GKS Katowice in the Ekstraliga since 2018 .

Career

Club

Maciej Urbanowicz started his career in the youth department of Stoczniowiec Gdańsk . From there he moved to the youth academy of the Polish ice hockey association Szkoła Mistrzostwa Sportowego, for which he played in the second-class I league from 2002 to 2005 . He then returned to his home club in his hometown, for which he played in the Ekstraliga for four years . In 2009 he moved to the JKH GKS Jastrzębie , with whom he was able to win the Polish Cup in 2013 . After six years in Upper Silesia, during which he was twice Polish runners-up with his team, he joined league competitor KS Cracovia from Krakow in 2015 , with whom he won the championship and cup double in 2016 . In 2017 he was able to win the Polish championship with the club. 2018 moved on to GKS Katowice .

International

For Poland Urbanowicz took part in the junior division in Division I of the U18 World Championships in 2003 and 2004 as well as Division II of the U20 World Championships in 2004 and Division I of the U20 World Championships in 2005 and 2006 .

He made his debut in the men's national team at the Division I games of the 2008 World Cup . In the following years Urbanowicz represented his colors at the Division I tournaments of the 2009 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 World Championships . He also played for Poland in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , 2014 in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
