Malakal , also called Ngemelachel , is a small island in the western Pacific Ocean ; geographically it belongs to the Palau Islands , politically to the administrative area Koror of the island republic of Palau .
The approximately 1.1 km² island is located about 700 meters southwest of the island of Koror , with which it is connected via a roadway and small bridges. There is a transmitter mast at the highest point on the island ( Kal , 124 meters). On Malakal there are several boat docks, smaller shipyards and hotel facilities. The main port of Koror ( Port of Palau ) is located on the southeast coast .
