Manscherok ( Russian Манжеро́к ; South Maltese Манјӱрек ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Altai ( Russia ) with 1535 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 20 km as the crow flies southwest of the republic capital Gorno-Altaisk in the northern part of the Russian Altai , which has a low mountain range in the area and reaches heights of 1200 m . Manscherok is located on the right bank of the Katun , into which the Manscherok stream of the same name flows below the village. At the place, the Katun, which marks the border to the Altai region on this section, overcomes the rapids , also called Manscherok . About 2.5 km to the east is the 37.6 hectare Manscheroksee above the village.
The village belongs to Rajon Maiminski and is located less than 25 km south-southwest of the county seat Maima . It is the seat of the rural community Manscherokskoje selskoje posselenije, to which, in addition to the village of Manscherok, the village of Osjornoje on the southwestern edge of the lake belongs.
history
The village was founded in 1856. Since the 1930s, the village and its surroundings with the lake have developed into a holiday and excursion area.

Manscherok is on the M52 trunk road , which comes from Novosibirsk , past Barnaul and Gorno-Altaisk, and continues in the southeastern part of the Russian Altai to the Mongolian border at Taschanta .
