Maria Elena Camerin (born March 21, 1982 in Motta di Livenza , Treviso Province ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Career

Camerin has played on the WTA Tour since 1997 , on which she has won three double titles so far. She achieved her first successes on October 2, 2005 in Guangzhou with the Swiss Emmanuelle Gagliardi and a week later in Tashkent with the French Émilie Loit . 2006 followed a tournament victory in Cincinnati on the side of Gisela Dulko . She won all three titles on hard court.

Camerin has not yet won a single WTA tournament, but has already won ten ITF tournaments. She achieved her best placement in the WTA world rankings in singles in October 2004 (41st place) and in doubles in July 2006 (33rd place).

Between 2001 and 2005 she played five games for the Italian Fed Cup team , all of which she lost. Another match took place in 2011 against Sweden in doubles, in which she and Roberta Vinci achieved the only victory in a Fed Cup game so far.

For Italy, she also took part in the Olympic Games in 2004 , where she was eliminated in the second round against Amélie Mauresmo .
