Maria Elisabeth Rooth (born November 2, 1979 in Ängelholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for AIK Solna in the top Swedish league, the Riksserien , until 2010 .

Career

At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , she won with the Swedish women's team bronze medal four years later at the Games in Turin , the silver medal.

In the unexpected semi-final victory against the Americans , she played a major role with two goals in regular time. At the end of the games she was the best European and non-Canadian player with a total of nine scorer points.

In total, she scored 105 goals in 265 international matches for Damkronora .

In 2005, her jersey number # 27 was banned from the University of Minnesota Duluth, becoming the first woman to receive that honor in U.S. college ice hockey. During the 2010/11 season she was an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

In 2015 Rooth was honored with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame and the Swedish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .
