Marisa Altmann-Althausen (born December 30, 1960 in Kufstein , Tyrol ) is an Austrian opera and concert singer (dramatic mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Marisa Altmann-Althausen began her training at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck with Gertrude Hechenleitner. She then continued studying with Ruthilde Boesch in Vienna and with Ada Zapperi-Zucker in Munich. This was followed by masterclasses with Wolfgang Brendel, Walter Berry , Birgit Nilsson , Josef Loibl and Kurt Widmer, masterclasses with Heldentenor Peter Svensson and vocal collaboration with Annamaria Rott (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna).

Altmann-Althausen is the winner of the Benjamino Gigli singing competition in Sirmione / Italy.

While still a student, she sang the title role in the world premiere of Peter Janssens ' music play Elisabeth von Thüringen at the Weltkirchentag in Munich , with which she then went on tour through Germany for two years.

From 1988 to 1990 she had her first permanent engagement at the Stadttheater Hagen , where she réussed roles such as Amneris in Aida (direction: Michael Halász ), the old woman in Der ferne Klang and the mother in Hansel and Gretel .

From 1990 to 1997 they performed guest performances a. a. to Krefeld, Pilsen, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf / Duisburg and Vienna with roles like Azucena, Larina, Czipra.

In the ring tetralogy at the Staatstheater Kassel from 1997 to 1999 she sang Fricka in Rheingold and in Die Walküre , as well as Waltraute in der Walküre and the first Norn in Götterdämmerung under the musical direction of Roberto Paternostro and under the direction of Michael Leinert . This commitment established her international career. Zubin Mehta engaged her as Hécube in Les Troyens (Hector Berlioz) at the Munich Opera Festival (opening premiere ) under the direction of Graham Vick .

At the Bavarian State Opera in Munich she sang a flower girl in Parsifal under the direction of Peter Schneider and directed by Peter Konwitschny . Under the direction of Bertrand de Billy and directed by Harry Kupfer , she sang Waltraute in Die Walküre at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona .

At the Tyrolean Festival Erl, under the direction and direction of Gustav Kuhn , she performed Erda in Rheingold and Orlofsky in Fledermaus .

At the invitation of the United Nations, she completed a concert tour in Japan with Mami Teraoka at the piano. Another invitation took her to the Austrian Cultural Forum (director: Christoph Thun-Hohenstein ) in New York , where she sang concerts with songs by Franz Schreker and the Wesendonck songs by Richard Wagner .

She also sang in Vienna, especially during the Wiener Festwochen , such as the alto solo in the Alto Rhapsody by Johannes Brahms with the choir and orchestra of the University of Vienna under the direction of Vijay Upadhyaya . A live recording was made of this production.

She gives concerts with the European GF Handel Society (mostly with the countertenor Arno Raunig ) in the Vienna Hofburg Chapel and in the Old Town Hall in Vienna and has appeared in the ballroom of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna and at opera galas at Weikersdorf Castle in Baden near Vienna with the European Symphony under the direction of Wolfgang Gröhs.
