from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marisa Maza (* 1965 in Madrid ) is a Berlin-based Spanish visual artist , lecturer in the Studium generale at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and curator in the field of artistic networking programs.

life and work

The project is about historical memory in the cityscape of Madrid. The brick is reminiscent of the infamous prison in Carabanchel , built in 1944 and demolished in 2008 , where many political prisoners were held during the Franco era.

After a Master of Arts at the Complutense University in Madrid (1988), Maza graduated from the University of the Arts in Berlin in 1999 as a master class student with Katharina Sieverding . Between 1998 and 2000 she was supported by the NaFöG postgraduate scholarship for young talent and a DAAD travel grant for stays in South Africa , Tanzania and New York . She then took part in the mentoring program of the UdK Berlin to promote women as university teachers .

Since the early 1990s, Maza's artistic work has centered on questions of gender politics, sexuality and concepts of identity and the forms of their cultural and political representation, as well as the political and “social construction of bodies”. In addition to the human body, it shows typologies of real, fictional and / or simulated (city) landscapes as metaphorical systems of socio-political conditions. Maza's working media are video, photography and drawing. Her work has received grants and project funding and has been exhibited internationally.

In addition to her direct artistic work, Maza has curated exhibitions since the 1990s and has been committed to expanding artistic networking programs. So she is z. B. Co-founder of the Timecode e. V. (2010), a cultural-political media initiative in Berlin that is anchored in the neighborhood and also networked internationally.

Since 2014 Maza has been a lecturer in the " Studium Generale " program at the UdK Berlin, where she teaches on the topics of gender , subject, migration and media representation of the political and social body in connection with art production. She is also a lecturer in the coaching program for professional artists of the educational organization of bbk berlin eV
