history

Nothing is known about the founding of the place, but the place name with the ending in "-hagen" indicates a comparatively young, possibly late medieval settlement. The first documentary mention of Schönhagen is also controversial: While a source possibly mentions the place as early as 1272, another later, but more certain mention comes from 1418. This first mention is in a list in the Göttingen city archive, the place was off the beaten track the medieval long-distance traffic routes over the Solling. Schönhagen was and is a pastor for the surrounding villages and belonged to the Nienover office until it was incorporated into the Uslar office in 1852. Since the territorial reform of March 1, 1974, the formerly independent municipality has belonged to the newly founded large municipality of Uslar. Until the end of 2010, Schönhagen was a state-approved resort .

church

Martin Luther Church

The stately Martin Luther Church, corresponding to the size of the town, was built from 1827 to 1831 in a classicist style. According to plans by the Hanover consistorial master builder Ludwig Hellner , a wide nave with high arched windows and a half-retracted tower with a pointed roof in the south-west was built in rubble masonry made of red sandstone. The construction work was the responsibility of the Uslar mason and stone mason Wilhelm Kuhlmann. The bright interior is divided into three naves by the galleries set on both sides, the wider central nave closes off at the top with a semicircular barrel. The pulpit altar wall with the pulpit cage raised in the middle above the altar table forms the north-east end of the central nave. The church is equipped with an organ by Ernst Wilhelm Meyer .
