Martin Gruber (born November 15, 1957 in Dorfen ) is a German director , choreographer and university professor.

Life

Martin Gruber is a director, choreographer and professor of movement at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . He developed his own methodology for acting training and founded the Talmi-Method® named after Alon Talmi . Martin Gruber's influence on contemporary acting training is great: as early as 1985 he introduced Aikido for actors at the Otto Falckenberg School . August Everding brought Gruber to the then newly founded Bavarian Theater Academy in Munich in 1993 to establish movement classes for actors. Many teachers who have completed training with him now teach at academies and universities for the performing arts. Many of his former students work successfully on stage, in film and television.

Basics of acting training

Martin Gruber developed from Asian and Western dance and martial arts training as well as various approaches from structural and functional body work a new methodology for comprehensive, interdisciplinary basic training in acting training.

The methodology is based on three pillars: individual work on one's own posture, dialogical work with a partner and collective, dynamic work in a group. The training combines neurophysiological knowledge and techniques (summarized in the Talmi-Methode®), the "Suzuki training" introduced and modified by Gruber in the mid-1980s from Japan and the Japanese martial art Aikido to form a comprehensive system.

In this way, she combines the requirements of a changing theater in search of new forms of expression, which are increasingly moving in the direction of physical theater , with the skills required by more traditional forms of theater. The actor receives the prerequisites to be able to master the entire spectrum from classical spoken theater to the musical, rhythmic, dance and vocal demands of today's performing arts .

Theater laboratory

In 1986 Martin Gruber opened his own production and training facility for professional theater groups and performing artists in Birach (Upper Bavaria). Until 1992 the tent ensemble theater resided here under the direction of Otto Kukla and Crescentia Dünßer .
