Martin Milanow ( Bulgarian Мартин Миланов ; born June 10, 1978 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian ice hockey player who played most of his career at HK Slavia Sofia in the Bulgarian ice hockey league. He has been the club's head coach since 2014. He is also Vice President of the Bulgarian Ice Hockey Association and President of the Balkan Ice Hockey League .

Career

Martin Milanow began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of the Bulgarian record champions HK Slavia Sofia , where he made his debut in the Bulgarian ice hockey league in 2000 . With Slavia he won the Bulgarian championship title in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 . In 2008 and 2009 he was the top scorer in the Bulgarian league. In 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009 he was also able to win the cup competition with his team . In the 2010/11 season he played for HK Levski Sofia , but returned to Slavia in 2011, where he ended his career in 2013.

International

In the junior area, Milanow stood for Bulgaria at the U18-C2 European Championship in 1995 , the U18-D European Championship in 1996 and the Junior D World Championship in 1997 on the ice.

With the Bulgarian men's national team , Milanov took part in the World Championships of Division II in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 when he was the player with the most assists, 2006 , 2008 , 2009 , 2011 , 2012 and 2013 . He was the tournament's top scorer in 2009 and was voted best striker in 2012. In both years he was also named the best Bulgarian player. He also represented his colors in qualifying for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .

Coaching

In the 2011/12 season he looked after the U16 team of Slavia Sofia as head coach in the Bulgarian U16 league. In the following season he was also head coach of the U18 team of Slavia. Since 2014 he has also been responsible for the men's team in the Bulgarian ice hockey league. He is also Vice President of the Bulgarian Ice Hockey Association and President of the Balkan Ice Hockey League .

At the U-18 World Championships in 2010 and 2012 and at the U-20 World Championships in 2012 , 2013 and 2014 , he was the head coach of the Bulgarian team in Division III. During the qualification for group B of the Division II Women's World Cup , he was general manager of the Bulgarian women's team .
