Matthew "Matt" Walker (born April 7, 1980 in Beaverlodge , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 335 games for the St. Louis Blues , Chicago Blackhawks , Tampa Bay Lightning and among others between 1997 and 201x Philadelphia Flyers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . But Walker also spent a large part of his career in the American Hockey League , where he played another 234 games.
Career
Walker began his career in 1997 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks , with whom he won the President's Cup in his first season . Then you were eligible to play the Memorial Cup , which you also, after a final victory against the champions of the Ontario Hockey League , the Guelph Storm , won. In the summer of 1998 he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues in the third round in a total of 83rd position. Walker then stayed for another two years in the WHL before moving to the American Hockey League for the Worcester IceCats , the then farm team of the Blues, for the 2000/01 season. Two years later, during the 2002/03 season , he got the chance to prove himself in the NHL. Ultimately, he completed 16 games for the St. Louis Blues, in which the right-shooter was able to achieve a scorer point.
After another 15 NHL appearances in the following season, he spent the 2004/05 season , which was canceled due to the lockout , completely in the AHL with the IceCats. With the beginning of the 2005/06 season , Walker was able to establish himself in the squad of the St. Louis Blues and consequently came to 54 games in which he scored two assists . He scored his first goal in the National Hockey League on February 17, 2008, during a game of his Blues against the Columbus Blue Jackets . After his contract expired after the 2007/08 season and was not renewed, he moved to the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent .
In July 2010, Walker was delivered to the Philadelphia Flyers along with a four-round draft pick . In return, the Tampa Bay Lightning got Simon Gagné . With the Flyers and their farm team, the Adirondack Phantoms , the defender came to sporadic missions until the end of the 2011/12 season due to injuries to his hips and back, before he declared his career at the age of 32 for an end.
