Career
The 1.85 m tall Gagné began his career in 1995 in his hometown with the Sainte-Foy governors in a lower class junior league in the province of Québec . In the following season he went for the Beauport Harfangs from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec on the ice, before he completed two more years in the league from 1997 to 1999 with the Québec Remparts . During this time, Gagné was selected in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft at position 22 by the Philadelphia Flyers .
The striker played for the Flyers from the 1999/2000 season and became a regular in Philadelphia in his debut season. Gagné finished his first season in the National Hockey League with a record of 48 points and was fourth among the best rookies scorers behind Scott Gomez , Alex Tanguay and Mike York . In the playoffs Gagné failed with the Flyers in the Conference finals in seven encounters against the eventual Stanley Cup winner New Jersey Devils . At the end of the season he was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team , a selection of the best newcomers to the league . In the following two years he increased his points and finished the 2001/02 season with 66 points as the Flyers' second best scorer. Before the start of this season, the Québec Remparts had blocked his number 12 and has not given it to any player since then.
In the 2003/04 season , Gagné came due to injury only to 46 missions in the regular season and failed in the Conference Finals at the Tampa Bay Lightning . After the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , the Canadian went on for the Flyers on the ice and achieved a personal record of 47 goals in the regular season in the 2005/06 season. In the 2007/08 season , the Canadian completed only 25 NHL games, as a concussion made him miss the game for several months. Despite a long compulsory break, he continued seamlessly in the following season from his previous performances and reached over 70 points. In the 2009/10 season he reached the final games of the Stanley Cup with the Flyers for the first time in his career, but lost the series in six encounters against the Chicago Blackhawks . In July 2010, Gagné was given to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Matt Walker and a four-round vote in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft .
On July 2, 2011, Gagné signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2011/12 season. In February 2013, he was transferred to his former NHL team Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a four-round performance-related vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft .
After he had completely suspended the 2013/14 season, he signed a contract for the 2014/15 season with the Boston Bruins in October 2014 , in which he played 23 games. This contract was not subsequently renewed, so that Gagné finally announced the end of his active professional career in September 2015.
