Matthias Grünert (born December 2, 1973 in Nuremberg ) is the first cantor of the Dresden Frauenkirche .

Musical career

He studied church music A , singing and organ concert at the University of Protestant Church Music in Bayreuth . After completing his A degree, he took the soloist exam in organ at the Lübeck University of Music with Hartmut Rohmeyer . Master classes with F. Tagliavini, Jon Laukvik , Michael Radulescu u. a. complemented his studies. During this time he was an assistant at Lübeck Cathedral and church musician at St. Petri in the climatic health resort of Bosau . There he organized the Bosau Summer Concerts series, which under his direction developed into a regionally popular cycle. From 2000 to 2004 Matthias Grünert was city ​​and district cantor at St. Marien in Greiz, Thuringia . In 2003 he performed the entire organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach and initiated the “Greizer Bachwoche”.

Matthias Grünert has been the first cantor of the rebuilt Dresden Frauenkirche since January 2005 and is thus artistically responsible for all church music events. He founded the large choir of the Frauenkirche with 120 singers and the 30-member chamber choir of the Frauenkirche . The choirs regularly organize church services, spiritual Sunday music and concerts in the Frauenkirche. In addition to numerous guest appearances in Germany, Grünert made concert tours with the chamber choir to Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan. The chamber choir, with which Grünert also regularly performs in front of personalities such as the former President of the USA, Barack Obama , Chancellor Angela Merkel or Pope Francis , sees itself as the cultural ambassador of the Frauenkirche.

The Ensemble Frauenkirche , which he founded and consists of musicians from the Saxon State Orchestra and Dresden Philharmonic , is a permanent partner for concerts and performances in the Frauenkirche.

Matthias Grünert is the winner of various organ competitions. Numerous concerts as a conductor , harpsichordist and organist at home and abroad round off his activities.

Since the winter semester 2008/09 he has been teaching organ at the Protestant University for Church Music in Dresden .
