Matthias Schlueter (painter, 1952)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthias Schlueter (born April 17, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German painter, draftsman and lithographer.

Life

Matthias Schlüter studied painting and graphics with Gerhart Bergmann at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1974 to 1980 , today's Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). In the following years he worked as a freelancer and traveled in Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia. In 1991 he was awarded the Ingolstadt City Art Prize. A lithography grant from the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg followed in 1995 . In the same year he opened his studio in Regensburg and moved to Beratzhausen in 2018 .

He has a teaching position at the state technical college and vocational secondary school, Regensburg, and gives seminars all over Bavaria . Schlüter is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK) Upper Bavaria North and Ingolstadt.

His brother is the geologist Thomas Schlueter . He is the father of two sons, married and now lives in Dietfurt an der Altmühl .

Work and reception

Matthias Schlüter focuses on painting, drawing and lithography and thus abstracts everyday things from all over the world. He sometimes records his impressions in over 250 sketchbooks, which serve as templates for artistic implementation in the studio. The thematic focus is on dynamic objects such as people in action, infrastructure in the city or natural landscapes - motifs that are watercolored, collaged, applied to paper and nettles using mixed media, drawn, printed or folded as a fanfold . In contrast to the dynamics, he deals with static objects such as suitcases and especially chairs made of wood, metal and plastics. Schlüter prefers the Jura stone for lithographic work and in 2010 published the annual print for the Eichstätt municipal lithography workshop .

Schlüter is strongly embedded in the regional context of the fine arts in the Upper Palatinate and Upper Bavaria . In 2003, together with Hanni Goldhardt, he initiated the international exhibition Licht Raum Europa and in 2011 the international symposium Without Borders in Ingolstadt. He is part of the artist group Von Wegen and corresponds with Helmut Wolf, with whom he shared a studio in Regensburg until 2005 and has presented cyclical exhibitions on the topic of beer since 2009 , including in the Munich Hofbräuhaus and the German Hop Museum .

Based on Joseph Beuys ' theory that “every person is an artist” , the self- confessed Donaldist Schlueter alludes with “Every person is a Donaldist” to people's optimism about asserting themselves in difficult situations. There are numerous works around the figure Donald Duck .
