Max von Behr

Carl Helmut Max von Behr (* 10. January 1879 in Reddenau , Kreis Preußisch Eylau ; † 27 December 1951 in Lindau ) was a German officer , of the Uradelsgeschlecht Behr came. During the Nazi era he was Lieutenant General of the Waffen SS and SS group leader .

Life

Behr was the son of pastor Ernst Heinrich Theodor von Behr (1848–1926). He completed his school career in Königsberg in 1898 with the final exam and then went on to become a professional soldier in the Prussian army . Since January 1907 he was married to Margarethe Mahla (1885–1955).

Behr joined the body grenadier regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm III." (1st Brandenburg) No. 8 as a flag junior . In 1899 he was promoted to second lieutenant and became a battalion and regimental adjutant. In April 1911 he was assigned to the General Staff and promoted to captain in March 1913 . As such he was from October 1913 General Staff Officer at the III. Army Corps and after the outbreak of World War I from the end of December 1914 with the 80th Reserve Division and from November 1915 with the 108th Division . From February 1916 he led the 2nd Battalion of the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 265. From October 1916 he was a general staff officer in the 105th division and was from there in February 1917 to the general staff of the economic staff of the military administration in Romania, where he was November 1917 became provisional Chief of the General Staff. With the rank of major , he retired from active service at his own request in March 1919.

In the Weimar Republic , Behr worked from 1920 to 1927, first as a businessman and then until 1929 as managing director of the East Prussian Foreign Trade Company . Behr first took up residence in Partenkirchen and then in Berlin .

After the seizure of power , he joined the Sturmabteilung in November 1933 and belonged to SA Reserve II, which was disbanded two years later. In January 1934 Behr became staff leader of the German Reich Warrior Association "Kyffhäuser" (from January 1938 NS-Reichskriegerbund "Kyffhäuser" ) and first deputy of the Kyffhäuser federal leader Wilhelm Reinhard . At the end of January 1936 he was transferred to the Schutzstaffel (SS-No. 276.063) with the rank of SS-Obersturmbannführer , belonged to v. At first he joined the staff of the SS main office and from April 1937 on the staff of Reichsführer SS . From the beginning of May 1937 he belonged to the NSDAP ( membership number 5,849,115) and ran unsuccessfully for the Reichstag on the occasion of the Reichstag election in 1938 .

During the Second World War , Behr was accepted into the Waffen SS in July 1941. He was first SS site commander of the SS site command in Vienna and from the beginning of March 1943 until the end of the war in the same function in Berlin.
