Isabelle is single and works as a painter in Paris. She has a ten-year-old daughter who alternates living with her and her former partner François. Isabelle has an affair with banker Vincent, but she is not personally attracted to him. When he tells her that he will never separate from his wife for her, she breaks off the relationship. Other men come into their lives. She does not respond to Mathieu's attempts to flirt, whom she regularly meets at her fish shop. The relationship with an actor begins violently and ends in bed - and the next morning with self-reproach from the actor, who has a wife and children, does not want a love affair with Isabelle and finds that everything between them has gone too quickly. In front of her friend Ariane, Isabelle fears that there will be no more relationship issues; Ariane tries to build it up.
Isabelle starts a relationship with her ex and father of their daughter François, but after a short time realizes that both are dragging themselves down too much. In a disco she meets Sylvain, with whom she meets. The relationship fails, however, when the gallery owner Fabrice, a friend of Isabelle's, sows into her doubts whether Sylvain is the right one, he does not belong to the artistic milieu, has never introduced her to his friends and perhaps only uses her fame to upgrade himself. Isabelle has a new relationship with museum director Marc. However, he wants to take his time and not rush anything, especially since he also has a family. Isabelle decides to go to the fortune teller Denis to get a solution from him for her unsteady love life and the numerous affairs. Denis believes that the actor will change and return to Isabelle. However, neither he nor Marc are really the right men for them. Ultimately, she wants more stability and authenticity in her life and shouldn't allow herself to be used. She should stay open to everything, take care of herself and find her beautiful inner sun.

My beautiful inner sun was filmed mainly in Paris . In mid-January 2017, filming also took place in the Creuse department , including in Saint-Léger-le-Guérétois (Club Atrium ), Arrènes , La Souterraine and Guéret . The working title of the film was Des lunettes noires ( sunglasses ). The costumes were created by Judy Shrewsbury , the film construction was done by Arnaud de Moleron .
My beautiful inner sun had its premiere on May 18, 2017 as part of the Quinzaine des réalisateurs at the Cannes International Film Festival and was shown in French cinemas on September 27, 2017. The German premiere of the film was on June 23, 2017 at the Munich Film Festival , and it will be released on December 14, 2017.

Claire Denis won the Prix SACD for My beautiful inner sun in Cannes 2017, where she shared the prize with Philippe Garrel for L'amant d'un jour . The film was nominated for the ARRI / OSRAM Prize for Best International Film at the Munich Film Festival in 2017. Juliette Binoche received a nomination for Best European Actress at the European Film Awards in 2017 .
In 2018, Juliette Binoche was nominated for best actress for a César , a Globe de Cristal and a Prix Lumières .
