Michael Schiechl (born January 29, 1989 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league .
Career
Schiechl started his career at EV Zeltweg . At the age of 16 he moved to Sweden and played for Leksands IF for the next three years . In summer 2008 he finally returned to Austria and played for the EC Graz 99ers for a year . For the 2009/10 season he moved to league rivals EC Red Bull Salzburg . In 2010 he won the IIHF Continental Cup and the Austrian championship title with the Mozartstädter . Red Bull repeated the national title win the following year, and also won the European Trophy with the team from Salzburg in 2011 . In 2012 he moved to the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian capital, for which he was on the ice for a total of four years before returning to Salzburg in 2016.
International
For his home country, Schiechl played at the U18 Junior World Championships in Division I in 2006 and 2007 and in the U20 Junior World Championships in Division I in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 . In 2009, he managed to move up to the top division with the Austrians, but he was the best with his compatriot Stefan Ulmer template donors and by his compatriots Stefan Ulmer and Thomas Hundertpfund third best scorer of the tournament group.
Schiechl made his debut in the senior team on April 8, 2009 in Innsbruck in a friendly against Russia . He first took part in a world championship in 2011 in Slovakia . There he was nominated as one of two players after the end of the preliminary round, but was unable to prevent the Alpine nationals from relegating from the top division. After that he was not nominated again for a world championship until 2014 . At the Division I tournament in Goyang he was promoted to the top division with the Austrian team. After the temporary relegation in 2015, when Schiechl was not there, he played again in Division I at the 2016 World Cup , but this time the immediate promotion failed.
