The Mieg family (partly from Mieg ; also Mugt, Müeg, Mueg, Mique and Miegen ) is a family of originally Alsatian origin, which flourished especially in Strasbourg , Mulhouse and Heidelberg and still exists in France today as Mieg de Boofzheim . Originally it was a family of merchants that also produced scientists, politicians and clerics. 1792 Benedict Friedrich Albert Mieg was recognition of the old nobility by Elector Karl Theodor of the Palatinate ennobled . In 1812 his son Arnold Friedrich Ritter von Mieg received confirmation of the Bavarian nobility. The Bavarian General Hans von Mieg was for his services on June 23, 1916 by King Ludwig III. Awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order , which was associated with the elevation to the personal nobility . Before that, the imperial lieutenant colonel Friedrich von Mieg (1731–1783) was apparently raised to the nobility.

That Peter MUEG is the ancestor of those MUEG of Booftzheim , local nobility to Boofzheim , as well as those Mieg. The coat of arms, as has been proven in the coloring since around 1530, was included in the nobility letter awarded by Emperor Rudolf II in 1582: divided by gold and blue, a red lion striding above, two golden stars side by side below. On the helmet with blue-gold helmet covers an open, (gold-) blue flight, (in the blue parts) each covered with a gold star. The same coat of arms is also shown in the register of Johann Christoph Ludwig Mieg (1731–1807), Prelate of Maulbronn .
