Miko Virtanen (born January 29, 1999 in Tampere ) is a Finnish football player who is under contract with FC Aberdeen .

Career

Miko Virtanen began his career at the age of four in his Finnish hometown near Tampereen Pallo-Veikot . He played for the club from south-western Finland until 2011. He impressed at an international youth tournament in 2011, after which he and his family moved to Liverpool , England, at the age of 13 . Virtanen played from then on for the next six years in the youth academy of Everton FC . Here he learned the Scouse , an English dialect that is only spoken around the city of Liverpool.

He left Everton FC in July 2017 and was without a club for the next four months. After a successful trial session, he was signed to the Scottish first division club FC Aberdeen in November 2017 . With the signing of the contract, he was hoping to be appointed to the squad of the Finnish U-19 national team for the European Championship in his home country.

After he had played in the U-20 team of the "Dons" in the following time, he was awarded in August 2019 to the Scottish second division club FC Arbroath . He made his professional debut on September 21, 2019 in the away game at Tannadice Park against Dundee United . For the newcomer, he completed a total of 20 league games in the 2019/20 season, which was prematurely canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

National team

Miko Virtanen played twice in the Finnish U-17 in 2016 . A year later he made his debut in the U-19 national team , with which he took part in the European Championship in his home country in 2018 . He was used three times in the group stage. In 2019 Virtanen played five more games in the U21 .
