Mineral County is a county in the state of Nevada in the United States . The county seat is Hawthorne .

The county has an area of 9,876 square kilometers, 146 square kilometers of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lyon County , Churchill County , Nye County , Esmeralda County, and Mono County, California.
history
Mineral County was established in 1911 from the northwestern part of Esmeralda County . The county derives its name from its natural soil, which is heavily mineralized .
Four buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 14, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 5,071 people. There were 2,197 households and 1,379 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.89% White, 4.77% African American, 15.36% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 2.68% other races Groups; 2.39% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.44% percent of the population.
Of the 2197 households, 25.40% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 45.20% were married couples living together, 11.50% were single mothers. 37.20% were not families. 31.60% were single households and 15.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.78 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.40% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.20% between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 19.80% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 101.60 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.30 males.
The median income for a household in the 32,891 USD , and the median income for a family was 39,477 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,929 versus $ 25,262 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,952. 15.20% of the population and 11.00% of families are below the poverty line. 17.70% of them were under 18 years of age and 10.70% were 65 years of age or older.
