The MyBB , originally MyBulletinBoard , is a free and open source forum software developed by the MyBB Group. It was written in PHP , supports MySQL , PostgreSQL and SQLite as database systems and is under the LGPL .
Functions
The MyBB has a wide range of functions that can be expanded using a plug-in system. The appearance is determined by themes that are based on CSS and XHTML and can be easily changed. Special functions of MyBB include an archive mode for better indexing by search engines, a full-text search, attachment upload, your own BBCodes , inline editing of contributions (using Ajax ), a reporting function for contributions and the possibility of creating your own moderation options. In the event of security gaps, a new version is usually published within a few hours.
history
MyBB was founded in 2002 by chief developer Chris Boulton after the XMB development team split. DevBB, a spin-off from the XMB code base , was created as a temporary solution while the new MyBB development team worked out the first versions of MyBB.
MyBB RC1 was released on December 10, 2003 and was the first public version of the software.
After three years of further development and numerous other preliminary versions, MyBB 1.00 was published on December 9, 2005. The version also marked the beginning of the 1.0x / 1.1.x series. MyBB 1.1.0 was released on March 9, 2006. The last version of the MyBB 1.0 / 1.1 series was 1.1.8, which was released as a security update on August 29, 2006.
On September 2, 2006, MyBB 1.2 was released. It contained a thoroughly revised and rewritten code base and over 40 new functions. The final version of the 1.2 series became MyBB 1.2.14 and was released as a security and maintenance update on July 17, 2008. Support for the 1.2 branch ended on June 1, 2009, and the discontinuation of security updates was announced on December 31, 2009.
On August 2, 2008, MyBB 1.4 was released to the public after a long beta testing period. Over 70 functions and changes were presented, including a completely revised and redesigned administration center and a new calendar system. As previous versions of MyBB 1.4 were released under their own proprietary license, new versions were re-licensed under the GPLv3 on October 12, 2008 , making it free and open source software. MyBB 1.4.2 was then released as the first version of MyBB under the GPL.
Two years after MyBB 1.4, MyBB 1.6 appeared.
MyBB has had closed in-house development since it was founded, but after switching to an open source license, preparations were made to make MyBB development public. On August 19, 2009, the development of the MyBB was opened to the public, so that users via Subversion had read access to both the development and the official bug tracker .
MyBB 1.8 was released on September 1, 2014.
