NGC 2796 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 309 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 ly . Together with LEDA 1923364 & LEDA 3088981 , it forms the galaxy trio Holm 115 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel .
