NGC 2817 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 150 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 2850 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on March 26, 1887 .
