The parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1972 took place in the West African state of Gambia on March 28 and 29, 1972. These elections (also: General elections) were for 32 elected seats in the House of Representatives ( English House of Representatives ).

The People's Progressive Party (PPP) received 28 seats and was able to win a clear majority. The second strongest force was the United Party (UP) with three seats.

Electoral process and districts

It was the fourth time the House of Representatives ( English House of Representatives ) elected. The House of Representatives had a total of 40 members, 32 of whom were directly elected. Eight other members were appointed by the chiefs.

The number and division of the constituencies was against the election in 1966 remains unchanged.

Election preparation

The Gambia Congress Party (GCP) under the leadership of Ibrahima Momodou Garba-Jahumpa was dissolved in 1968, Garba-Jahumpa switched to PPP.
