Nadeeka Lakmali Bambarenda Liyanage (born September 18, 1981 in Vekadahena ) is a Sri Lankan javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Nadeeka Lakmali gained her first international experience in 2002 at the Asian Championships in Colombo , where she took seventh place with a width of 46.21 m. The following year she took part again in the Asian Championships in Manila and was there with 48.94 m fifth. In 2004 she reached fourth place at the South Asian Games in Islamabad with 49.08 m and in 2005 she reached ninth place at the Asian Championships in Incheon with a throw of 48.54 m. In 2006 she won the South Asian Games in Colombo with 50.73 m and then took part in the Asian Games in Doha for the first time, where she finished seventh with 52.54 m. In the following year, she finished fourth at the Military World Games in Hyderabad with 53.83 m and won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Amman with a throw of 52.59 m behind the Thai Buoban Pamang and Kim Kyung-ae from South Korea. In 2008 she took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing , but in which she was eliminated with 54.28 m in qualification .

In 2010 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi for the first time and was there seventh with a width of 53.36 m, before she then finished eighth at the Asian Games in Guangzhou with 50.68 m. The following year she classified herself at the Asian Championships in Kobe with 51.94 m in fifth place and in 2013 she won the silver medal behind the Chinese Li Lingwei at the Asian Championships in Pune with a new national record of 60.16 m . With this she qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Moscow , where she finished twelfth with 58.16 m in the final. At the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow she reached sixth place with 59.04 m and then she was fifth at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, with 57.71 m. The following year she missed another medal at the Asian Championships in Wuhan with 52.29 m in fourth, but then won the bronze medal at the Military World Games in Mungyeon with a width of 55.79 m behind the Chinese Zhang Li and Jucilene de Lima from Brazil . In 2016 she won the bronze medal behind the two Indian women Suman Devi and Annu Rani at the South Asian Games in Guwahati with a throw of 54.82 m .

After a year break, Lakmali started again in national competitions in 2018 and again won the bronze medal behind the Chinese Zhang and the Brazilian Laila Domingos at the World Military Games in Wuhan in 2019 with 52.73 m . Then she secured the silver medal behind her compatriot Dilhani Lekamge at the South Asian Games in Kathmandu at the beginning of December with 54.41 m .

In 2005 and 2013 as well as in 2015 and 2019, Lakmali became the Sri Lankan javelin champion.
