Kurumi Nara ( Japanese 奈良 く る み , Nara Kurumi; born December 30, 1991 in Minō , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese tennis player .

Career

Nara, who prefers hard courts, has won five singles and three doubles titles in ITF tournaments so far . In July 2011 in Hyogo , she faced Argentina for the first time for Japan in the Fed Cup . She has now played 16 games for the Japanese Fed Cup team , of which she has won ten.

In 2010 she was twice in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament : at the French Open she was eliminated in the first round, in Wimbledon she reached round two. Her best performance was reaching the third round in 2013 at the US Open after she had competed there as a qualifier. She repeated this success in Melbourne in 2014, when she was qualified for the first time directly for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.

In 2013 she reached the semifinals of the HP Japan Women's Open Tennis . Nara's greatest success so far on the WTA Tour was her title win in 2014 in Rio de Janeiro . With her final victory over Klára Zakopalová , she made it into the top 50 of the WTA world rankings . In August 2014 it achieved its best ranking to date with 32nd place.
