history
The airport opened in June 1937 under the name Berry Field . It extends over 1.4 km².
During the Second World War it was used by the United States Army Air Forces , now the United States Air Force .
In 1961 a larger terminal was opened to handle the increasing number of passengers and air traffic. In 1987, today's terminal building at Donelson Pike was put into operation because American Airlines wanted to build one of its hubs here. In addition, the airport was renamed Nashville International Airport a year later because of its international connections . But the old name still appears in the IATA code, because BNA stands for B erry Field NA shville.
Since August 2020, the airport has been offering travelers a biometric technology called CLEAR as an alternative to handling using ID documents . This uses the eyes and fingerprints to verify a person's identity. This gives travelers a faster route through airport security .
