Nesselröden (noble family)

Nesselröden (other spellings: Nesselrieden, later Nesselrodt, not infrequently also incorrectly Nesselrode) is the name of an old Hessian - Thuringian noble family who had their ancestral seat in Krauthausen (Thuringia) near Eisenach since the 14th century and originally probably from Nesselröden (near Herleshausen) came from. Other goods were in Lengröden and Creuzburg .

The sex is not related to the tribe of the Bergisch lords of Nesselrode .

history

The first mention of those from Nesselröden took place in 1242 with the knight Bertholdus de Nezelrede in a document from the Counts of Klettenberg.

Members of the family were for a long time Burgmannen of the Creuzburg , at times council members of Eisenach and often appeared as witnesses in Hessian / Thuringian monasteries, nobility and landgrave documents. In Thuringia and Hesse they had properties in Krauthausen and Lengröden, Creuzburg , Ifta , Scherbda , Brandenburg Castle and Lauchröden, among others .

With the death of Wilhelm Friedrich Leberecht von Nesselrodt, this family died out in 1799. Three tombstones of the Lords of Nesselröden from the 16th and 17th centuries (some with coats of arms) are located at the church of Krauthausen.

A connection between those from Nesselröden and the Westphalian from Nesselrode is not yet known, but these families are often confused.

Lengröden, Creuzburg , Ifta , Scherbda , Brandenburg Castle , Lauchröden , Treffurt , Schnellmannshausen , Großburschla , Wolfsburg and Unkeroda , Barchfeld , Fröttstädt , Burla , Neustedt and Pösen . In Hesse they owned Herleshausen , Netra and Sonneborn (desert near Waldkappel ).
