Kramer (family name)
Kramer is a family name.
Origin and meaning
The family name Kramer goes back to the profession of the shopkeeper who went about his job “in the Krambude” or “in the Krame”. Various forms of Kramer's name go back at least to the 15th century.
Kramer is a professional name and means "dealer".
The Kramer / Krämer originally only had "one junk" - a general store or a general store. So he was a small trader or a peddler. The word “stuff” comes from Middle High German and means “tent cover”, “Bude”, then “goods”. First of all, it meant a fabric roof under which the market transactions took place. Only later did the word meaning apply to the goods themselves.
Variants of this name are Krähmer, Krahmer, Krammer, Kramarz, Kramarsch, Krambehr, Kramarczyk, Kramski, Kramsky, Cramer.
