Nick Sandow

Nick Sandow (born August 3, 1966 in the Bronx , New York City ) is an American actor . He is best known for the role of Joe Caputo from the television series Orange Is the New Black .

life and career

Nick Sandow grew up in an Italian neighborhood in the Bronx. His father died of a heart attack when Nick was nine years old. The mother then raised him as a single parent with his three older sisters. At the age of 19 he moved to Manhattan and took acting classes at the William Esper Studio and took on theater engagements.

In 1992, Sandow got his first role on camera when he starred in the series Law & Order . He was then cast for a small role in the film Handgun - Hetzjagd Through New York . After further appearances in small films, he was subsequently seen in One Night Stand , No Looking Back , For the Life of a Friend and Kissed Wake Up . From 2000 to 2002 he was seen in the series Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit in the supporting role of Joe Lombardo . This was followed by guest appearances in New York Cops - NYPD Blue , The Jury and Six Degrees . In 2003 he took on a supporting role as AI in the crime comedy Connie and Carla . In 2007 he played the role of Italian-born boxer Rocky Marciano in The Champ . He also appeared in the Portuguese episode film The Lovebirds from the same year.

In 2011 he starred in the comedy Bad Sitter with Jonah Hill . At the time, he also appeared in guest roles on How to Make It in America , Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York , CSI: Miami , Unforgettable and Boardwalk Empire . In 2013 he took on his most famous role to date. In Orange Is the New Black , he was cast in the role of prison guard Joe Caputo . The role was originally written shorter, but was later expanded. Sandow played the role in over 80 episodes until the final seventh season of 2019. In addition to his role in the series, he has directed three episodes so far.

In 2015 he released the film The Wannabe , which he wrote and also directed. He himself took on a supporting role as Anthony . The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival . In 2017 he took on a supporting role as Ray in the music film Patti Cake $ - Queen of Rap .

Private

Sandow has lived with his partner Tamara Malkin-Stuart in a residential building in the Brooklyn borough of New York since 2004 . Together they are parents of two sons.
