Qualification for ÖFB Cup

The Cup of the Lower Austrian Football Association , in short "NÖFV Cup" called, is one of nine Austrian football - cup competitions for amateur teams of men at the association level. In Lower Austria this is the Lower Austrian Football Association , which organizes the cup competition in the knockout system .

The cup competition is called NÖ-Meistercup , until 1975 Niederösterreichischer Landespokal , from 1983 NÖ-Meistercup and is a qualifying competition for the ÖFB-Cup . At the moment the cup is known by Admiral as Admiral NÖ-Meistercup . SV Gloggnitz won the title in the 2018/19 season.

Beginning in the late 1920s until the 1950s, the state cup was the highlight of the Lower Austrian football scene alongside the championship. After several interruptions, the competition has been played annually since 1984 under the official name of Lower Austria Master Cup. In contrast to the old state cup, only the master clubs of the individual Lower Austrian leagues are eligible to participate.

Game mode, participants and draw

The Lower Austria Master Cup is held in the knockout system. All rounds up to the semi-finals are decided in one game. The drawing of the first rounds takes place from a geographical point of view. If they are drawn against masters from the 2nd national leagues and regional tables, clubs from the 3rd and 2nd classes generally have home rights up to the 3rd round. If they play against teams from the regional leagues, the champions of the national leagues must also compete away from home in the 2nd round. If both clubs play in the same performance level, the former club has home rights at the draw.

The final will be played with two legs. The winner of the first semi-final game drawn is considered the home team in the first leg, the winner of the second semi-final game drawn as the away team. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, the winner will be played an extra time of 2 x 15 minutes. If there is still no winner, this will be determined in a penalty shoot-out .

  • 1st round: preliminary round (champions of 3rd, 2nd and 1st grades)
  • 2nd round: 1st main round (the champions of the regional league and 2nd regional league enter)
  • 3rd round: Round of 16: 16 participants (the champions of the 1st national league joins)
  • 4th round: quarter-finals: 8 participants
  • 5th round: semi-finals: 4 participants
  • 6th round: Final: 2 participants

Bonuses

The losers in the 1st round each receive an entry bonus of 200 euros, those in the 2nd round 400 euros and those in the 3rd round 800 euros. From the 3rd round, the home club receives a match ball donation from the competition sponsor. A bonus of 1000 euros will be distributed to the losers of the semi-finals.

The two finalists will be awarded commemorative cups and medals. In addition, the winner receives the challenge cup, which becomes the property of the club after three wins. In addition, the winner receives a bonus of 2000 euros and the loser one of 1400 euros.

The Lower Austrian Football Association was founded as an independent association in 1922, until then it was only a sub-association of the ÖFB, which, among other things, had hosted the Austrian championships and the ÖFB Cup . The NÖFV remained administratively united with the ÖFB, but announced a Lower Austrian regional championship for the first time for the 1922/23 season. The introduction of the state cup was not decided by the NÖFV until 1926 under President Franz Gstaltner, the first event took place the following year. After the temporary unification of the NÖFV and the WFV, this competition was soon dropped and only reintroduced in 1931. With a few brief interruptions, the cup was played until 1941, albeit under different names and not always with the best teams in the country, but then had to be discontinued due to the events of the Second World War .

The competition was reintroduced after the end of the war in 1946 as part of the Bundesländer Cup . However, after this was abolished in the course of the state league reform, the NÖFV decided in 1951 as the first Austrian regional association to suspend its cup competition for an indefinite period of time.

In 1970, however, it was again the NÖFV that was the first association in Austria to reintroduce the competition. Due to the fact that the interest of the population had died down in the meantime, the title had lost its ideal value in the meantime and so the state cup was interrupted again in 1976.

In 1983, the NÖFV decided to reintroduce a reformed cup competition. In place of the previous state cup, the champions of the individual leagues, starting with the state league downwards, hold an annual championship cup . The high sporting value that the former state cup possessed is no longer given today due to the almost exclusive participation of small clubs.

A special incentive for the clubs is that the winner is entitled to participate in the first main round in the ÖFB Cup and thus has the chance to receive a Bundesliga club in a home game there . In addition to the entry fee of 1000 euros, the audience income remained entirely with the home club. In addition, the costs for the referee team are borne by the ÖFB.
