Game mode, participants and draw
The Lower Austria Master Cup is held in the knockout system. All rounds up to the semi-finals are decided in one game. The drawing of the first rounds takes place from a geographical point of view. If they are drawn against masters from the 2nd national leagues and regional tables, clubs from the 3rd and 2nd classes generally have home rights up to the 3rd round. If they play against teams from the regional leagues, the champions of the national leagues must also compete away from home in the 2nd round. If both clubs play in the same performance level, the former club has home rights at the draw.
The final will be played with two legs. The winner of the first semi-final game drawn is considered the home team in the first leg, the winner of the second semi-final game drawn as the away team. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, the winner will be played an extra time of 2 x 15 minutes. If there is still no winner, this will be determined in a penalty shoot-out .

The Lower Austrian Football Association was founded as an independent association in 1922, until then it was only a sub-association of the ÖFB, which, among other things, had hosted the Austrian championships and the ÖFB Cup . The NÖFV remained administratively united with the ÖFB, but announced a Lower Austrian regional championship for the first time for the 1922/23 season. The introduction of the state cup was not decided by the NÖFV until 1926 under President Franz Gstaltner, the first event took place the following year. After the temporary unification of the NÖFV and the WFV, this competition was soon dropped and only reintroduced in 1931. With a few brief interruptions, the cup was played until 1941, albeit under different names and not always with the best teams in the country, but then had to be discontinued due to the events of the Second World War .
The competition was reintroduced after the end of the war in 1946 as part of the Bundesländer Cup . However, after this was abolished in the course of the state league reform, the NÖFV decided in 1951 as the first Austrian regional association to suspend its cup competition for an indefinite period of time.

In 1983, the NÖFV decided to reintroduce a reformed cup competition. In place of the previous state cup, the champions of the individual leagues, starting with the state league downwards, hold an annual championship cup . The high sporting value that the former state cup possessed is no longer given today due to the almost exclusive participation of small clubs.
A special incentive for the clubs is that the winner is entitled to participate in the first main round in the ÖFB Cup and thus has the chance to receive a Bundesliga club in a home game there . In addition to the entry fee of 1000 euros, the audience income remained entirely with the home club. In addition, the costs for the referee team are borne by the ÖFB.
