Nikolajewka ( Russian: Никола́евка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Jewish Autonomous Oblast ( Russia ) with 7,912 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is in the Amurniederung , on a right old branch of the Amur -Nebenflusses Tunguska . It is located about 140 km as the crow flies east of the republic capital Birobidzhan , belongs to Smidowitsch Rajon and is about 70 km to the east from its administrative center Smidowitsch . The municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Nikolajewka also includes the two villages Klyuchevoe (4 km southwest) and Deschnjowka (two districts 6 and 11 km west-southwest).
history
The place was founded in 1898. In 1912 a large sawmill was built, which was expanded considerably during the Soviet period and has been known as the Tunguska wood processing combine since 1931 . In 1938, Nikolayevka received urban-type settlement status.

Economy and Infrastructure
What used to be by far the largest company in town, the wood processing combine, was closed at the end of the 1990s. A furniture factory is still in operation. There are also companies in the construction and food industries (fish processing, bakery).
In Nikolajewka there is a station of the Trans-Siberian Railway 3 km south of the town center (route km 8496 from Moscow ). The M 58 Amur trunk road from Chita to Khabarovsk , part of the transcontinental road connection , runs south of the settlement along the railway line .
