The type OMT 3600 is a container ship type of the Danish Seago Line, a subsidiary of Mærsk Line . The ships there form the new V-Class.

General

The ship type was designed by Odense Maritime Technology. The Vistula Mærsk was named "Danish Ship of the Year" by Maritime Danmark in 2018.

The ships are employed in various liner services of the Seago Line in the North and Baltic Seas in the classic feeder service. However, they are significantly larger than the feeder ships previously used in the North Sea and Baltic Sea from Mærsk , which can carry between 1,400 and 1,700  TEU . Due to their dimensions, the ships can not pass the Kiel Canal .

Techniques for “situational awareness” are tested on board the Vistula Mærsk . For this purpose, a lidar system for distance and speed measurement is installed on the ship . The ships are also to be used to gain experience in the possible use of the Northeast Passage for traffic between Europe and the Far East .

With the Venta Mærsk , Mærsk Line tested the passage through the Northeast Passage from Asia to Europe in August / September 2018 . It was the first passage of a container ship through the Northern Sea Route without an icebreaker escort. The trip led from Vladivostok to Saint Petersburg via Busan and Bremerhaven and lasted from August 22 to September 28, 2018.

history

The construction contract for seven units of the type was signed on March 26, 2015. There is an option for two more ships of the type. Construction of the ships began on October 25, 2015.

The lead ship of the series was delivered on February 1, 2018. It has been in service between Rotterdam and St. Petersburg since April 2018 .

Technical data and equipment

It is powered by a six-cylinder - diesel engine from MAN B & W with 17,279  kW power . The engine acts on a fixed propeller . The ships reach a speed of around 20  knots . Four diesel generator sets are available for power generation. The generators are driven by Himsen diesel engines with 2 × 1,680 kW or 2 × 1,440 kW. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 1200 kW power.

The ships have five holds , four in front of and one behind the deckhouse . With cell guides equipped rooms are equipped with pontoon hatch covers closed. Cell guides are on deck for the lower three layers. There are ten 40-foot bays in front of the deckhouse and two more behind the deckhouse, with the rearmost bay only able to accommodate deck containers. Up to 14 containers can be loaded side by side. The container capacity of the ships is 3,596 TEU. With homogeneous loading with 14 t heavy containers, 2,400 TEU can be loaded. 600 connections are available for refrigerated containers.

There is space on board for up to 28 crew members , who are accommodated in individual cabins.

The ships are specially designed for use in cold areas. They are equipped with a closed bridge over the entire width of the ship. The forecastle is covered to protect the crew when docking and casting off. The hulls of the ships are reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A). The ships are considered to be the largest ice class container ships.
