history

The first written mention of the village "Cunenrute", which belongs to the Waldsassen monastery, was in 1249. At the beginning of the 14th century, a small settlement with festivals arose south of it , which can be traced as Oberkunreuth from 1320 onwards. The owners of the fortress were the Schirnding von Schirnding , they were followed in 1447 by the Juncker patrician family from Eger . The latter had the fortress redesigned as a two-storey renaissance castle with three corner towers in 1563. Around 1735, the city of Eger acquired Oberkunreuth Castle with the associated Liebeneck estate from the Juncker von Oberkunreuth family.

After the abolition of patrimonial Oberkunreuth ( Horní Kunreuth ) formed from 1850 a district of the community Unterpilmersreuth ( Dolní Pilmersreuth ) in the district and judicial district of Eger . The parish was St. Anna. From 1880, Oberkunreuth was part of the Pilmersreuth community. Around 1905 the city of Eger had a children's sanatorium set up in the castle. In 1920 Oberkunreuth consisted of 21 houses and had 111 inhabitants. After the Munich Agreement , the village was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the district of Eger until 1945 . After the end of World War II , the village returned to Czechoslovakia and the German-speaking population was expelled . In 1952 the place was renamed Horní Hraničná. With the erection of the Iron Curtain , the newly settled village was cleared and devastated again in the 1950s because of its location in the border area .

Together with Pelhřimov, Horní Hraničná was incorporated into Háje in 1961 . In 1965 Horní Hraničná came as a district to Pomezí nad Ohří . The castle was initially used by the Pohraniční stráž and was demolished in 1971 when a new barracks was built. On April 1, 1976, the place was incorporated together with Pomezí nad Ohří to Cheb. In 1980 the Cheber districts Horní Hraničná and Dolní Hraničná were combined to form the district Hraničná. Since November 24, 1990, Hraničná belongs as a district to Pomezí nad Ohří.

Horní Hraničná today consists of the former barracks and a ruined house. Only overgrown heaps of rubble are visible of the castle and farm yard.
